Looks like better Offensive magic to me. And I prefer this casting offensively then the touch my forehead.
My real Fear is seeing all those ppl running around him with horrible feet animation o.o... almost look as bad as Fable 2 and 3 ... I hope its gonna be fixed. (most likely will)
Be more specific, what do you mean by "feet animation"? Walking animation? Running animation?
I like the weapon movement, and the glowy stuff, but I agree his weird little 'dance' there is a tad overdone. I don't think casting a spell should involve that much body movement. It sorta looks like he thinks he's going to take off and fly away or something. I could get used to it, but if anything they should just tone it down a little. Make him wiggle around a little less.
Who gives two fu*** about spellcasting animation dude?.. oh behbeh jeezus lawd pwease!I'm sure everyone noticed something *weird* about the way Yoshida's hyur was casting his spells in the last Live letter.
The first second for the casting animation is good, when you swing your weapon in a circle and it makes a cool effect (like what the Lalafell did in the trailer) but then the delay animation looks like a..
Whatever this is, it looks silly, don't you guys agree?
I hope it's a temporary animation, not *final* for ARR.
Yea man why are you actually paying attention to detail? Those that understand that quality goes hand in hand with anything related to assets and animations when delivering a product such as an MMO? Why are you like that OP?
Let's keep this discussion civil guys, you either agree or you don't, you state you opinion, explain why, and that's it. There's no need for name calling, hateful memes or insulting remarks. And it's better to ignore the ignorant.
As for the ones who stated their opinions, whether you agreed or disagreed: thanks for taking interest in my discussion. I know now that some of us liked the animation, and others didn't. It's a matter of taste in the end I guess.
(And for the ones who said that the picture I posted is sped up, yeah, I'm not expert on turning videos into Gifs, I just recorded the "middle/delay animation" and turned it into a gif to give you guys the general idea of the body movement, i apologize if it turned out to be a bit sped up, it wasn't intentional, nor was aimed to make the animation look worse)
The animation looks great in general, specially the start. It's the middle that needs to be fixed a bit in my opinion. There's no need to move his hips this way in a dance-like move. Saying that "it's done this way to make it like he's conjuring magic" is a valid point, but there are better ways to do it: hand movements, shoulders movements, stepping or half-stepping forward or backward.. I can see tons of ways for magic to be conjured, but for hips to be involved like that, it's not the ideal way. We've seen this kind of wavy-movement in a number of games; making snake-like weird movements while casting spells, and it didn't really give a feel of being "the epic mage who burned/froze/electrocuted the enemy"
Some of you might wonder and ask "Why do you keep focusing on the body movement? Why the hips? Just look at the whole animation in general and that's it." and you have a point, but the reason I keep saying "hips" because it's the most noticeable thing in this animation, I showed the animation to a few friends who are all RPG gamers (more into offline RPGs than online, not ffxiv players) without saying anything, honestly, just said "What do you think?" and they all noticed it and hinted at the hips movements before anything else: "Why is he dancing like that?"
