What other ideas do you have that would make Eorzea feel more alive? ^_^
One thing from Champions Online id take that really made that game feel alive

NPCs that roamed all over the place.

Now granted doing that in the wilderness isnt a great idea, but in the towns, having npcs who are just walking around would really put a nice touch on things.

And the massive group of mobs and the HNM poured through one of the passages our of northern Thanalan - or poured out of any of the caves that go nowhere really. And made their way south to Ul'dah trying to slaughter every PC in sight.

Those adventurer's that don't turn and flee, but instead turn to face the HNM and engage, and turn him back so that he flees tail between his legs back to the north are victorious and well rewarded.

But maybe those outside the city fall, and he keeps rampaging through into town and starts slaughtering crafters outside bric-a-brac left and right. If it gets to the point of really wiping the whole map, then the Azemya's sheilds ride to the rescue and save or sorry rears or some such.

Please...think outside the box about what you really want this game to be. It might take work and thought by the dev team, but that's what I want them to do.

Does it just happen or do you elect to participate...because I want to see a dragon roasting crafters and afkers in downtown Ul'dah

Just went and read about it - sounds good. But it also sounds like since it is tied to a particular city, you have to go and actively seek it out. I'd like for catasrophe, and danger to be an active and unexpected thing in the world. Like if it just happened a couple times a week at random cities in the game.

I'm tired of predictable, repeatable, content that has no variation or surprise. Things should not always happen on a schedule that can be planned for.

I wouldnt complain if Sandworm enemies were introduced into the game, especially the Amano style worms:

Of course i'm not really sure if Thanalan actually counts as a desert, since there arent any actual sand dunes. I'd really like to see the team make use of the empty space around La Noscea and Thanalan with Beast Tribe camps.

As far as city assaults go, I really want to know what Hamlet Defense entails.

    Besieged:
The beastmen (Lamia, Trolls, Mamool ja) build their forces then march towards the city, you can intercept them if you want, but when they reach the city you're thrown into a fight to defend the Hall with the Cand. Everyone can fight everything so it does "just happen".

    Campaign:

Same idea, but you defend a military fort from wave after wave after wave (sometimes) of beastmen as part of the crystal war scenario, if the enemies take control of every adjacent region, they'll lay siege onto the final area, the nations themselves.

I would like to see more of the little things in the atmosphere. Birds flying in the sky in various areas, lighting effects on various things throughout the world that make things seem more magical (certain flowers that light up at night for example), dark buildings with glowing candles, being able to see fish in the water on the boats, falling leaves, insects flying/jumping around, auroras, meteors in the sky, crashing waves in LL, leaping dolphins and whales, waterfalls, ducks and other things in/around the lakes (they are boring), minor volcanic eruptions from the volcano in La Noscea, more NPC movement (they all seem catatonic).

I'd also like to see more things in Uldah related to mining since minerals are a part of their economy.

These things might sound trivial but I think they are really important to the overall feel and atmosphere of the game.

Sidenote: Finally figured out that the Gnat design is from Final Fantasy II:

I agree! The reply from Rukkirii sure made my day!! I'm so glad we all put our efforts into building this thread and got the attention of Yoshi P.
Until our turn comes in the development queue of Final Fantasy XIV in a few months, let's continue posting original ideas to make Eorzea as lively as possible.

Long story short, what I wrote in order to make the game itself alive was to have NPCs that wander around the cities and around the lands, which reminds me of an NPC in Vana'Diel near San d'Oria's fields that was running back and forth.
It would be great if what an NPC says would be changed while time goes, like saying something in the day and another thing in the night, or when the moonphase changes or whatever.

In regard of the sound, I recall asking if it would be possible, just like when you walk into the nature hearing animals sound, to hear people speaking in the background (obviously, not too loud). I remember something like that in The Last Remnant, and I think that gave the city of the game a good and alive feeling.

That's what I have to write for now, as it's a little late here, maybe tomorrow I'll have more ideas about this =)

    See ya!

And Rukkirii, I give you guys an Internet Good Work charm! Thanks for your efforts on telling us important informations like these!
    Definitely!

Thinking outside the box, to make the box bigger!!

Hopefully it's what they had planned about the threat on Eorzea, haha.

LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.

I love to see Volcanic eruptions, earthquake would be nice maybe a area that happen a lot and you see cracks on the floor and lava flowing to the ocean. how about some shooting star? and meteor showers and meteor rock on the ground on some part of the world and big holes showing the impact of pass events on eorzea seeing NPC looking and studying the rocks and the impact. Maybe NPC studying the Volcanic and the lava that going to the ocean also.

Also a awesome Comet that pass every few years on FFXIV which is a awesome sight to be hold. Something awesome looking passing the sky.

How about lunar eclipse and solar eclipse every year and it look awesome also? All of these events could bring so much life too eorzea it would be a very fun and beautiful world. Giving the NPC life also by giving us story line and showing us when the event happen.

When there a meteor shower they could be a NPC that give you a quest to go and get him some rocks so he can study. Give you a nice reward maybe a item for your home?

There so much SE can do there no limits for it.

Ya, thats the sandworm i had in mind.
And well , i think most of us got dissapointed after readin months before release that the "Desert" city of Uldah,
was...bl bla...bla & when we finally go there, it was all rock & rubble, no san-dunes at all... extremly dissapointing.
But for now...i guess were stuck with it.
