This "all summer long information flood" has been underwhelming at best.
A few trailers, most of which have had good parts but overall have been not had any real wow factor. A few game play videos of the same area where a single Dragoon kills some critters and runs around a bit. A couple of presentations which although gave quite a lot of information, most of it was already known to most players with only a few confirmations of speculation and even less surprises.
The most impressive part of this has been the Lodestone and the official website. Square Enix are trying to push this game but how do you push a game when you lack regular content news updates? Worse still, they load up the lodestone with filler. Come on, contest after contest post? Are you kidding me? Grand Companies, Rings and now Foodstuffs?
To add insult to injury, we actually require Japanese translation threads. Don't get me wrong, I understand it is a real pain to translate especially when people may interpret what you say as a business due to a bad translation. However, it was said over a year ago been said that the companies' main language will be English for pushing the game's community, yet we see constant lengthy waits between official translation and many community answers in Japanese only which are then fan-translated in a thread where people post opinion in which dilutes factual news with opinion.
What would be really nice is to see small snippets of information on a day to day basis just to keep players and newcomers checking the site and learning about the game. A great example of this was Super Smash Brothers Brawl, from the 22nd of May 2007 to its release on 10 Feb 2008, every single working day, they released a small snippet of news. A part of a zone, a part of the story, a spell, a snippet of sound or some of the game's functionality was detailed on the main page every single working day.

Now granted, this is not without it's flaws, Brawl was very well received with a lot of people actively visiting the site and debating the game but with this came high expectation, the game sold extremely well but many considered it over-hyped due to former games in the series being great.
Still, a middle ground would be nice.
