Then again all this mideival/victorian/renaissance fashion is getting kind of bland no matter which way you look at it. I don't think I need to remind you this is FINAL FANTASY afterall, we have magic, and aetheryte that allows us to teleport. Couldn't we see some more fanicful armor? Aetheryte encrusted armor or something ffs... If i were a crafter in the world of FFXIV you can bet I'd be trying to make armor out of those huge crystals in mor dhona.

It would definitely be a nice touch for some equipment pieces to have added embellishments on them to make them a bit more interesting for A Realm Reborn.

Personally, I love Akihiko Yoshida's character designs from Bravely Default.

I have utmost confidence in Akihiko Yoshida's creative skills.
There is nobody more qualified to be the lead designer for FFXIV, or of the whole FF franchise for that matter.

Sadly, since Yasumi Matsuno left SE in the middle of directing FFXII, I doubt we will ever see one.

I believe Darklight, AFs and new classes(lol) equipment hit a sweet spot on how XIV's equipment should look, other things like Scale mails and the better chainmails(with extra armor and shoulder pads are done right too.

The harness like equipment from the opening movie looks decent too, too bad we never got them.

While others are boring as hell to look at, like Haubergeons but those can be fixed by adding a chest-plate or something.



There it looks much better. (If you squint your eyes maybe bwa ha ha)

That thing looks awesome, I can't wait to see the rest of the set.


I believe that they can make really good looking equipment if they wanted to, and I'm sure they have some they didn't show us yet, like fully armored harnesses (Militia harness is the closest) chainmails with full attachments and so on, they just need to limit the really boring stuff to low levels and start buffing up the mid to high level equipment.

The Elzen concept art at the beginning has a body piece we don't have yet, and the hyur is wearing a tabard with all the attachments or whatever on it and they both look good.

I almost forgot though.. I can't stand the look of the heavy Darksteel/Darklight "Trashcan" armor.



Let's hope they don't use that 3d mesh for any other armor (or at lease remove the stupid helmet).

i am looking at those pic and looking at ffxiv gear disgn and i am going what happen?
its like they try to be generic as much as they can with armor.

tge darksteel heavy armor just look bad
the darklight armor look real nice but besides the color still remind me of gear in game
