It's NOT the same as having chocobos, ahrimans, etc. in different FF games, because those are just races.
Whitemage, Bard, Dragoon are just professions.
OF COURSE you can have them in different kinds of worlds.
Nanaki is absolutely different though. He's an actual character, wanting to have him in FFXIV is the same as saying "When human sidekicks make their comeback to the game, can I have Cloud from FFVII as my companion?"

Also, Nanaki is one of my favorite characters from FFVII and I find it very degrading that people want him as something to use for riding around on

I don't mind having more options for mounts and companions than just our chocobos (would be too hard to implement them before ARR launch though), but I'm strictly against using characters from other FF titles as companions in FFXIV.

pokemon here we come or what ;XD "Arihman GOOO!!!" "MORBOLUS GOOO!!" "Pikachuuu GOOO!!" .. oh no.. its a different game.

then let square enix introduce a new class/job like engineer or some kind of that ;XD
for me its disturbing enough the imagination that every soloplayer is walking along with a chocobo companion all the time.

I like the concept of fighting alongside chocobos I guess, but it feels weird. EVERYONE is going to be soloing with a chocobo? EVERYONE is suddenly a pet class? What about in a party? Is an 8 man party 8 people and 8 chocobos? Do they take up a party slot?

Need more information, but initial thoughts are bleh.

Since you'll be able to make a choco farm in 2.0, why not make it so you can mass produce chocobo meat? I bet they taste delicious and would give good stats.

It would ruin my immersion if you can't kill your own companion.

    tastes like chicken, nothing new

In my opinion, it has more potential as a fighting companion than a chocobo, and I don't want to hurt the precious chocobo I will have raised.

But seriously, it comes down to having the choice. If you guys like chocobo, fight with them. If OP and I prefer another companion, allow us to be satisfied too. It won't hurt your play style, guaranteed.

P.S: If it's still not possible, at least, allow me to outfit my chocobo with a full Magitek Armor!

Look i loved the idea of having a path companion like XI, you could give gear and power level your companion, although i played FF tactics and was nice fighting with the chocobos, they had singular attacks, i would have prefered keeping my own path companion of FFXIV to help me in every fight but with a better AI, but i hope they add that option so i can raise my mithra companion from scratch, it was nice having your companion in the CS doing its part like telling you she/he found something, dirty talking etc.

Of course if they add that they should give us the option of creating our own path companion like we do with our characters or at least 60% of those options, of course a small chain of introduction quest, be able to customize gear and give orders with an extra bar, idk with 4 skills it can do according to the class your companion has.

I see the path companion as a whole different topic of discussion. One I agree would like to have back in the game if its indeed made better then we have today. I can wait on that subject.

As for chocobo mounts that fight by our side and have gear. There has been no explanation as to really how this is going to work. Just that it will and they can do some stuff. I would personally like to be on the mount when combat engages and be able to swing my sword from atop the bird. My fear is this will not happen. I wish it would. I also would like it to be more into the pvp arena like jousting but not so precise. Just let me and my sparring partner go at it while mounted.

My 2nd fear is that the fight along side you won't be as badd ass as actually fighting. I am afraid it might be more passive like the npc's in ffxi. Yes they casted but not on your command. The bird might hit the enemy but I don't think it will be this great big over whelming "alright mofo's I'm bad now I have bird to level my toon". I bet you will not notice a huge addition to your solo play style. Exp has and will mostly be based on the skill of the player doing the quest or leve. Seeing as the bird imo won't be fully engaged in the party as a person or player character might be I see no sense in doing
gimp exp ala ffxi element in this game. THIS IS NOT FFXI. Just deal with it. lol

As a mount? Isn't that a flying mount anyway??

Anyway, Red XIII is not a person, but a character. Maybe we could say his ancestors came to help us defend the new FFXIV world, therefore doesn't have to be Red/Nanaki himself, but similar design. Make it a rare mount so not everyone is riding it, obtained in-game & an achievement of it's own. 10% extra mount speed, diff colors coats. That would give people something to aim for and bragging rights.

Chocobos w/ armor is about it, in ancient times people put armor on horses for protection. I don't think chocobo casting animation is gonna look cool, I mean just how cool can you make a chocobo? Everyone soloing w/ a chocobo sounds lame. I'm assuming it'll be like FFXI companion where they disappear once you join a party. I hope they are taking this much time w/ developing character strenghts, customization & progression. Rather a character I can build up than a chocobo. Sounds like more market wards to me, more time spent on things that aren't major.

What does this mean for chocobo breeding anyway? Okay colors and..? How about speed, endurance, bravery. Making you WANT to seek out top breeders so you can have chocobos that will run faster, further distances & less likely to run off, maybe try to protect you. Not just for a green chocobo alone (which is still cool, but how about more!). Perhaps these breeders can also repair harnesses, etc.

Behemoth Chocobo looks lame, BLM choco looks lame...

Ya know what I liked about the prev FF games i liked? Cool original weapons! Cool costumes.. not chocobos

Chocobos take up a party slot, they are mostly just to help you out when soloing or filling in a party slot if you need, say, a member or two to get light party/full party bonus. Obviously having an actual player will be better than an AI companion if you have the option.

I've said it in the hundreds of other thread that prop up about this topic and having a massive diverse list of "Options"

You have one of two choices.

    1. You have a Chocobo companion, developers can spend alot of time on making these companions unique so not everyone is running around with the same companion

    2. You have a larger selection, but with less variaty or detail that would be put into a single unit.

It's the same with "OMGAZ I NEED ALL THE RACES!" I'd rather them have a smaller animation and set of models to design gear around so they don't need to retool 20 different races for one hat. Likewise with animations, FFXI small race pool gave us race specific animations so the races not only looked different but they moved different and felt special. You can't stretch yourself too thin or you start to lose polish and end up with a muddy mess.
