    The gear designs are one of the best things XIV currently has going for it. They managed to hit this sweet spot between aesthetically interesting, and yet functional. No tacky, frivolous spikes and bikini armors (Aside from the Colosseum gear, which I really dislike), but not boring leather and chainmail

    I would really hate to see this game lose yet another unique and interesting aspect to tacky, mass appeal shit

    Are you serious? I would say it is sub par at best, only a few pieces of the top looking newer gear is pretty good but everything else looks like complete dookie.
