back when 1.23 came out this track came out that nobody had heard before (and to my knowledge its not in game yet)

This was observed in the introduction cutscenes of the tutorial: Raining fire, the sound of voice and song. This was foreseen through "the echo". I believe we walk free but this was scripted since BETA.

This is awesome, and I really hope it comes to fruition. Maybe this has been done before in other MMOs, but this is the first time I'm personally experiencing a world-changing event like this. It's awesome and I am very excited for it, and only hope we actually get to witness it one way or another. This gives me hope.

Weeeell... given that this game was originally designed to last for about a decade in it's released format, and given Squeenix's more recent habits of finding difficulty in bringing a mountain of ideas from the drawing board to a consolidated game state (ref: XIII), it is certainly plausible that there were in game assets of an umbral era landscape in development before Yoshi-P took over. If so, why not make use of them?

If they do a cinematic CS for us to end our days before ARR I am sure it will be a log-on CS so everyone can view it once.. you log in and get to see a nice long CS that shows the end of the world as we know it

I'm just hoping those days post November 1st make the game creepy, since nothing is being saved anyway.

Have Dalamud Answers playing in every area, all the aetherytes over-aspected, all the NPCs in the game have new text when you interact with them, like with the NPCs at Atomos camps, mob behavior changed to attack anyone on sight regardless of level, etc. Garleans could be roaming in every zone at all times, the primal aetherpoints completely depleted, just total chaos.

Granted I figure with how much they need to focus on 2.0, asking something of this kind of depth is like asking Valve to release Episode 3, but still, a man can hope. I would just like an unsettling environment to reflect what just transpired.

All they need to do for a post apocalyptic world is darken the sky with black clouds, red lightning, and lots of meteors. Not hard.

It probably won't happen, but imagine if Ifrit's plumes just started popping from the ground during the 5-minute warning. Would be pretty memorable.

I'm still waiting for in 1 or 2 weeks for a patch with one last quest, were we summon the twelve and fight the seventh in Mor Dhona and on completion of some tough fights we will watch how Dalamud fares and after that we will get teleported or put into stasis, as seen in the trailers for ARR. It could be cool if our characters got locked as ending the quest so we cannot play anymore until 2.0, as it would made no sense to keep on playing after being put to stasis.

Grand Finale for the Current Version of FINAL FANTASY XIV

The grand finale is right around the corner, as the Seventh Umbral Era descends on Eorzea. A final save maintenance for current version character data is scheduled for November 1, 2012, followed by all Worlds coming down on November 11, 2012 at 0:00am (PST) / 8:00am (GMT). Then at 2:00am (PST) / 10:00am (GMT), also on November 11, we’re planning to run a live Letter from the Producer.

The event of all the Worlds coming down signifies the curtain closing on the current story of FFXIV. Your character data will be preserved with the final save maintenance on November 1, and transferred to A Realm Reborn. (The only change to your data will be the coordinates where your character appears after logging in.)

Only the character data saved during the November 1 maintenance will be carried over to A Realm Reborn. The devs will also be focusing on the new version, and there will be no more patches or bug fixes for the current version after this point. But it seems a real shame to take away a venue where players can get together as a community. If we brought the servers back online, you would, however, need to ignore the inevitable story contradictions. Considering these factors, players that have an active subscription as of September 30, 2012, would play for free.

Why would there be Nov.11th server maintenance? No one will want to log in just for the heck of it, so I propose there should be open world primals so everyone can experience them before the end. I hope this help incase people were confused abit.
