Double Melding for A Relic Reborn quest

i am more putting this up in frustration and aggravation and hoping that maybe ill get some tips but for the last month or so i have been devoting my time to trying to farm gil and buy items to attempt a duel meld on an obelisk for my Gae Bolg and i have spent a total of 55mil and failed 6 times to duel meld is there any trick or is this just plain old blind stupid luck with the intent not to be actual game content but a time/money sink in what is already a choppy game to start i just hope that the directors words that in 2.0 the relic quest is going to be completely different and require more time/effort then dumb luck and gil the phrase "Relics aren't for everybody" should never be spoken to anyone who plays the game they should require effort and a sizable amount of time i would be willing to spend 6 months working on this if i new half the quests involved wouldn't be all about denial

It's luck. The only thing you can do to help your odds is...

1. Try to use the lowest value materia. Your double meld odds will be better if they're both the lowest instead of higher.

2. Melding onto an HQ obelisk will increase your odds by 5%.

...but having spent as much money as you have on that, you probably know those two things. I'm not getting 55Mil out of 6 failed attempts though, so I'm not sure how you managed to spend that much.

since the whole atomos exploit with seals and dawn drops being sold to vendors for pretty high amounts the prices on my server have sky rocketed so each savage might VI is 2.5mil+ need 2 for each 5mil there the obelisk are about 2-3mil then 20k for the matter to meld the materia so times that by 6 and its roughly 48mil give or take prices going up and down i just think that its not in the best interest of the games content to leave something like this in it

It's not really a money sink though considering the money is circulated instead of just disappearing.

Retrospectively, this is correct, but if the risk of attempting it had paid off with more luck than was experienced, we'd be saying the opposite.

Well all i know is if SE don't pull there head out there arse and stop putting things like this in game its going to fail on 2.0 time have changed games are all about the casual player now RNG and luck should never effect quest progression
