Why is FFXIV so unpopular?

Well that, and I like what I have seen so far from the gameplay videos so it's not just hope.

And I agree, I like what I have seen thus far, ( but there are some people that seem to think that FFXIV 2.0 is going to be an Empty world like FFXIV 1.0 was) Which is far from the truth . Main Storyline ( Which branches into three parts), Lots of quest from the get-go, Primals, Dungeons that are 3 times the size as they are now. Exploring the new and improved areas, A New Area which has yet to be revealed ( On the main site), PvP, Crystal Tower.

And a lot more stuff from What's coming in 2.0 and whats coming shortly thereafter.

Doom and Gloom seems to be the fab these days :P

If it wasn't for 2.0 and our characters moving over, I doubt any of us who think the game is terrible would actually still be playing.

That would certainly make these forums a less infuriating place.

Never saw that list before until this thread X) Didn't bother clicking 'follow' either... Granted, to be fair, I typically avoid sites like gamespot... Kinda like when I see a Chuckie Cheese, some small part in the back of my mind still gets excited when I see one, but then when I actually think about it, I remember it's really not worth even setting foot in there anymore. X)

I don't understand why people are still using the game at release as justification for the current game being "terrible." I'd rather continue to play the current game than something like GW2, WoW, or Aion. I'd, of course, rather have a more responsive server, a new environment, and more content(also abolish speed runs) but I don't want to play any other style of MMO combat. I like the slower paced, think about you next move rather than the follow a very small rotation combat styles.

Here are a few reasons why I am playing right now:

My own personal story:

I played FFXI for 4yrs. Switched to WoW & tried other MMOs aswell, some F2P. Had a RL friend tell me he bought FFXIV (this was months ago) & thought it was okay & how they've been working on it. So I kept tabs on it, saw some of the 2.0 proposed deadlines & started to read up on the game, finally buying it and signing up August 8, 2012.
Now it's September 22, 2012: 6 weeks 3days later, I've had enough. 4 Lv.50s AF/Melded Gear/Primal Weps,Etc.

Final straw for me was the server communication lag, I've had enough of trying to do events and communication lag kills me. Eg. Moving while casting is supposed to break ur cast.. It doesn't reliably, MANY times. Or you can LOS (line of sight) Garuda's WS as it's about to go off and still get 1-shot, meanwhile ur dead on the other side of the rocks.. Hows that even possible?? Or raven's double Iron Chariot into a Lunar Dynamo and you can be dead right next to someone who lives..
This ontop of the "spam content" 1% drop gameplay is dull & monotonous. Yes I am bitching due to not wanting to learn how to deal with the game poorly operates.. But coming from other games where I input into the game and it does what it should, I'm not forcing myself to accommodate server lag & repeated time sink gameplay.
So if anyone asks me about FFXIV I will not be inclined to say "sure try it!" For now myself, I am going to be one of those who will be looking at 2.0 & wondering if I should give it a shot. Might go play GW2 with my RL friend (same friend who got FFXIV, whom btw quit for GW2).
And I will say, the only "skill" in this game is learning to deal with server communication lag (i.e. not casting cuz boss might use TP move soon & animation lock will kill you). I'm done, might log on out of bored, which I've been bored for at least 2 weeks now, so I guess the game held my attention for 1mo. & I'll keep tabs on forum & 2.0 release info.

Economy:
For those who are Q_Qing about the recent Atomos added gil, don't forget that it's very possible for SE to make a lot more rare/ex gear. I personally find that having AH gear being best/2nd best gear is annoyingly stupid. Once that's not an issue ppl won't cry about gil as much.

Oh & I finally got my retainer into Ul'dah 2wks ago.. Fk M.Wards!

Wow, you snuck in propaganda like a political campaign manager. Also, a lot of current feedback is being ignored because:
1: this game is getting DELETED so the extra effort to add things to it would be wasted in the long run. In fact they could have just shut it down to be relaunched later, but instead they're giving us something to do while we wait.
2: there are a lot of trolls on the FFXIV forums. They aren't going to take all this crap seriously, and we have people like Rokien to blame because a good portion of his threads are trivial.

Bu I agree, there's some irony about paying customers bitching about this game like it's the worst thing in the world. We already know it's imperfect in 1.x, and it seems to me they pay to play so they can feel validated by pointing out the obvious flaws.

it's mainly used by console players (not many true pc fans on that site)
