FFXIV - Actu / Let's Play: www.emulord.com
(Micha'el Mulord, serveur Ragnarok)
Without writing a wall of text or going into too much detail here is why that wont happen...
1 - It works on low end computers. I can almost promise that game will run on anything made within the last 2 years without any trouble. I have friends who cant play FFXIV simple because it requires such a powerful machine to play on.
2 - No region servers. The game allows you to play with your friends from around the world without splitting you up. Believe it or not that will be a huge factor come 2.0.
3 - Content. Right now FFXI has so much content in it you can do solo, duo, small party, big party, alliance. You can literally log in and pick what you want to do everyday and never do the same thing twice. You can play alone if you have an hour or stop in Jeuno and pick up a voidwatch party in 10 mins.
4 - Safe exploration. At 99 you can go almost anywhere in the game and explore. I dont expect stuff to be a pushover in FFXIV but I would say right now 70% of the map is a nightmare even if youre level 50. Dont go out anywhere alone.
5 - New expansion. FFXI has a brand new huge expansion coming out first quarter of 2013 with new jobs and lots of new zones. Adding a ton of new content to the game.
6 - Current playerbase. I can log into my server anytime of the day and see anywhere from 1.5-3k players online. I dont think FFXIV will reach that number within the first year, not on a consistent basis.
Bottom line, FFXIV wont appeal to the large casual gaming market. Questing to exp? Sounds good until we are told each level requires a party of 4-8 to progress. Splitting us up regionally? Already a nightmare. They are too concerned with getting new players and making them happy (ex: Gil value change) instead of keeping the loyal people happy.
I am trying to stay optimistic but honestly if they dont start really getting a buzz going about ARR outside of the already playing crowd its not going to take off.
It has no chance of doing so.
All this tells me is that FFXI have been out for a very long time. But we'll see, I still think ARR will do better than FFXI, maybe not in it's first year but definitely in it's lifetime.Without writing a wall of text or going into too much detail here is why that wont happen...

From what I've seen so far... SE is trying to be the next WoW. But that won't happen. Its going to be like When FFXIV first came out. its all about the Gameplay/ battle mechanics. and i dont see any potential in A Realm Reborn... I mean they gonna have chocobo healer/dd/tank... Who gave that idea? Choco breeding/ riding sureI think they should just rename this game to "Rupture" and save the FF Brand.
It depends on the marketing SE pushes for XIV. There is a large install base of PS3 owners something like 52 million. If SE PR division advertises hard to the PS3 crowd you will see a large initial influx of players.
The PC version sold something like 600k+ boxes in 2010. Many of those people have writen the game off, but again if SE advertises a free welcome back 2.0 campaign you might see a bump in people checking it out.
Will they reach a million subs?
Who cares?
Subscriber numbers mean nothing. Warhammer had a million+ now it's down to 1 low population server. ToR had a million+ now look at it. Tera had a high population now it's down to 3 servers.
So it doesn't matter how many people play the game, it depends on how the game plays.
Unless it makes you sleep better at night knowing that 999,999 other people like playing the same game as you, numbers mean NOTHING!
in one year? i doubt but maybe if they do keep up to date with quality content in future, suppose so also marketing wise... .
you know if they make 1 million in one year, that'll be awesome.
