Not if it's on a global server it's not.
It has nothing to do with a global server. If your playtime is as random as you say, it's near impossible to have a reliable group to do more difficult content with. If all you want to do is level and common stuff, you're fine I guess, but good luck with anything else. You don't have to have global servers to have people to play with at all hours of the day. I've played many random MMOs, ranging from WoW to MapleStory. Most them have plenty of people on the servers at all hours- and WoW and Maplestory are both region locked- not just regionAL. This is NOT going to be a problem for you regardless of server unless the game fails at its new launch.

Also as a side note, "global" pretty much never includes China, as they basically require that any game service in china be for china only. So technically, you only get to pick from about 5 out of 6~7 billion people on the planet.

So you don't agree that Content finder gives the developers alot more reasons to instance content?
    I don't disagree, but I don't see a problem with this either.

How is it near impossible to know people in multiple time zones when you play multiple time zones?

It's nice that I could belong to multiple endgame shells because they never had conflicting interests due to the time differences. Of course I needed a shell that accepted my time situation but it was rarely a issue finding people to group or party with at any time of day.

Your assumptions about how hard it is to know people in multiple time zones is incorrect. It's as easy/hard as it is to know people on a single time zone. Sure I knew less people who were "on at the same time" but I had a handfull of people or shells to turn to at any givin situation. I know a few people in my situation such as Army personell and they rarely had issues on XI either.

It could be because Odin was so populated it had to be closed off, but it was a tight knit community at all hours of the day. You had as much JP onry ass-hatery as you did NA players being jerks to JP's as well, it's not a single nationality or group of players that are assholes it's just not as apparent when you can "Tollerate" a person being a jack-ass in english when a person being a douche in a different language is a bit more frustrating.

    *edit*

Again you continue to make assumptions about how people in my situation fair in the game. You tell me it would be near impossible to do things when it was far from the truth. I'm not trying to be rude but I know what it's like to be in a situation like mine more than you do.

Also it wasn't just Odin I made a server transfer to Pheonix in my later years of XI and still had few isues finding people to play with.

On the vien of you "I played WoW and Mapplestory and there were "Plenty" of people online at oddball hours" I can guarantee you that "Plenty" of people is a far cry from the thousand or so people I could find online in XI at any givin time of day.

Just because you apparantly can't find a way to play with players from different regions of the world doesn't mean we all do. (I again strongly remind you I speak very little Japanese and I played with German, Korean, and players from other nationalities as well) and maintained good relations with many of them after I left XI.
