    Free Company Confusion

Players will be able to change their emblem and create larger houses as they increase their Free Company level. Also, players will be able to form an alliance with other Free Companies and have their own shared bulletin board.
I can't tell if this is ambiguous or just rushed translation or what, but I'm confused. The four people who start a Free Company must belong to the same Grand Company? Won't this fragment alliances as opposed to creating them? I foresee some linkshell division, for one.

Also, are these four people just the leaders of the company, or are they the company? Can they recruit more? Either way, I see trouble again - either you'll need 2 companies to form a full party, or you'll start to create full linkshells' worth of people to share home bases ... that are all from the same GC.

Can we get a more detailed explanation of the basic expectations of how we'll use it? I don't feel like this answered the question very well.

Yeah I've been waiting for news on Free Companies so I could get our LS ready for 2.0, but all this did was confuse things even more. Also don't understand the need to ally with other Free Companies when you just want to make 1 big one.

probably so you can re-make a company 10 times and ally them all together as SE probably didn't put in a mechanism to boot people out of the company and capped the # of members.

I don't believe it stated you had to be apart of the SAME grand company.. just as long as you were part of A grand company

That would ease my mind on about 10% of my current concerns, so I hope you're right ... but now I'm thinking it's more ambiguous than ever!

One of the original purposes of Free Companies was to allow people from different Grand Companies to do things together. So, you and your friends will be fine regardless of what GC you chose to join.

The four will be the starting officers of the company. Yes, you will be able to recruit more. Who knows what the upper limit will be. Hopefully it'll allow as many people as LS can hold. Linkshells will remain the cruical social aspect of the game, I presume. (I will continue to hold multiple pearls yet I can only belong to one FC.) Where as, FC will offer more tangible benefits to its members.

This whole 8 person limit from Rein's translation is scaring me. I thought Free Companies were guilds.

    Hopefully they still are.

Yeah. The game is generally a rotating door of activity opportunities ... it's like a predetermined inevitability that the only free companies worth a damn will be those run by people who have nothing else going on... which is a real strange limit to place on an MMO playerbase.

    That's not a company, that's just a static.
