beat me to it... except for the whole dying in a fire. That's mean... But yes, it has been previous stated that chocobos fighting along side you take up a party slot. At most you could have a party of 4 BLM with 4 WHM chocobos

If they are like your NPC partner in FFXI i doubt chocobo will stole Job from a real WHM.
