What people don't understand is that Yoshi didn't say the system will be as it is.
What he said is that the team couldn't come to an agreement on how to solve it and, as such, he's waiting on feedback from the alpha players on how to solve it the best way. So, temporarily, the system only supports that one item belongs to one gear set.

My opinion would be to create a new window (similar to the items window, or even a part of it) that shows you a list of all the gear you own, including the one you have currently equipped on you and on your gearsets. That way you could link the same item to different gear sets, and even have a way to easily check all your equipment for repairs or whatever.

My idea: Create a separate inventory in the Gear Sets menu that you can drag and drop gear from your inventory into the gear sets inventory. The Gear Set space will be large enough to house gear so that if you use unique gear in every slot for every available job, you can put it all in there.

When you make a gear set to use, you can pick any items that are in that gear set inventory so multiple sets can call for the same items.

Or they could have multiple sets of items that way if you have one class that fills every slot with an item you only use on the class you can fill the entire set for just that class. or you could have a melee dps set filled with assorted pieces that can be worn by multiple then you'd fill each class set with only the pieces that class wears individually and it would only put those pieces on, and then you could use the more universal set to fill in the rest.

    EXAMPLE TIME!

My whm wears gear that only gets used by my whm, I don't use any of it's gear for any other class. When I am setting up the gear set, I just dump all of the gear whm uses and it gets equipped.

Now let's say my monk and my dragoon both have several pieces that both classes use as well as several pieces specific to each class. theoretically I could have three sets 1 that is DRG gear ONLY; one that is MNK gear ONLY; and one that is every piece both classes share (we're gonna call it DPS). When I switch to drg, I toss on the DRG set, and the DPS set. Or if I switch to monk I put on the MNK set and then the DPS set again.

    Eh?

Yeah, I hope it's only a mistranslation/misinterpretation. Some people have "gear sets" that comprise of just swapping a few items and incorporate a lot of U/U gear. This couldn't possibly work in the way the translation spells it out.

I think the problem is the items go into a bazaar like system as a set, since it doesnt take up a slot in your inventory. Basically once you have it in a set the u/u quality of it isnt a factor since you can have a u/u in your loot or bazaar and still have one on you. That dynamic is the same as it is now, so I am curious to how they could fix that without compromising the existing way its done.

Thanks for posting ideas regardless of if its a translation error or not. I really think we need to prevent it being that we need to different items for 2 different sets no matter how they are doing it. And I don't think for that part there is any translation error. It seems pretty clear to me thats how it was put.

the problem for this one is, how many is the limit for the "separate inventory tab"? the number of gearset is dynamic, based on their quest progression for this one.

We have 18 slots for gear. Each gear set you unlock would just add 18 more spaces in your gear set inventory.

The problem is how do they make the item not take up inventory space, and be assigned to multiple gear sets at the same time?

Say you have Gloves assigned to DRG, and WAR. You are playing BLM at the time and not using the gloves. Where are these Gloves actually found on your person if you were to try to NPC them for example? What menu do you go to take them from your character?

I see how this can be confusing for them to implement well but they really need to come up with some gear sharing system for sets AND still managa to keep these set items from taking inventory space in a 100 item inventory.
It's possible because the actual item is stored on the first gear set. If you need the item you look at the first set. Or they could go further and make it so the link becomes a reference to the item, so that if you drag a link off a set it drags the item off your set and cancels all the links.

I think if they don't respond to this post in the forums they will have to react to the feedback in the alpha...or atleast the beta? I just don't want to see a bunch of little things like this sneak into the game and building on eachother making it a hassle to play.

    I remember Septemeber 21, 2010. I remember.
