I have NA friends and EU friends. There is no way I could possibly ever convince them to play on the same server as mine if it ends up being a JP world. Not only that but I would expect non JP population to fall drastically, meaning you are effectively segregating communities that have already been together for 2 years now.

And no, "make new friends" is not an option. Sorry if I actually care about the people I play this game with.

If you can't convince people to stay on the server you're on just because it's Japanese, that kind of just says that they would rather be on a regional server to begin with.

Woah woah woah, I never even said to resort to that. Most of my Linkshell is EU, so if they decide to stick to their EU servers then I'd probably head over that way as well. Though they'll probably stick to our current server.

That isn't my point though. My point is that people wanted better latency, and now that we're getting that they don't want it because of the unique international community? Were they expecting server hops to disappear and that everyone in Australia or France would have the same latency as someone from Japan on Japanese servers all while on the same world?

So when one of my LSs decides to go to an NA server and the other wants to go to a EU server, I just have to willingly cut the amount of friends I have in half?

I play at all sorts of different hours of the day and speak several languages, because of both these things the non-regional system is absolutely perfect for me because I get to play with lots of different people and be active in several LSs.

What SE is doing will make this effectively impossible and it WILL destroy some communities.

Someone else did right after you, sorry I didn't quote them.

No, you're right. There's not much that I can say about that. They'll make the gameplay experience better, but it will damage the community. As I said though, the community wanted better servers, they kinda got it. It's pretty shitty but there's not a whole lot that can be done at this point.

Yep, it's the give take, but MMORPGs aren't about the community these days anyway >.>...

Actually, they are. But not very many MMOs emphasize on an international community. Which is one of the things I like about this game. The international communities will still be there, but they will be severed.

Actually, they are not. It's all about your gear, your performance within your LS and how much time you spend farming items.

If it was about the community, people would play the game for fun, not as their job.

I am happy with this movement,
Don't get me wrong, I like the kindness of JP player,

but I play this game for fun, communicate with others
not just meeting JP player,or study some simple JP greeting words.

The JP player just can't speak English well, & i just can't understand what they are talking about.

A JP primal/NM party just won't let me join, because they will discuss tactics in full Japanese.
& they don't want to waste time on the translation.

And it's hard to find a English speaking LS.

If you like to meeting new JP friend, you are still able to choose a server in their location.

    Well said Colino.

So even if you have friends that all speak English, if some of them chose to go to an EU Server and others go to a North America Server, (and naturally your JP friends stay on the Japan Server), what then?

You'll inevitably lose friends and your various Linkshells will be split / broken.

This is a terrible decision Square.

The funny part is, FFXI isn't separated like this yet all of it's checks are perfectly fine because they dump a lot onto the client rather than servers like XIV.
