Nah, you start out solo for barely an hour of the game in some of the FFs, rest you're already with allies just not in your fighting party, so he was actually correct with his sarcasm, only solo FF game I recall is Crystal Chronicles, and that was purely to give a multiplayer aspect.

crisis core, and dirge of cerberus is another two I can think of that is pure solo in the VII series.
