Starting to look like a long downtime for 2.0

What I've found interesting about this downtime is that, if substantial, it gives players a time to get their "fix" elsewhere, and perhaps develop an attachment during said downtime there instead. Be it FFXI (imagine if the new expansion pack came out before ARR comes back online), another company's MMO, or even just offline games, not only will SE be trying to attract new players, but they'll have to work towards convincing those that have spent their time gaming elsewhere during the downtime to return before they grow attached to another game.

Or...People that have put well over 2 years into their game, and won't leave it. Seen it before, and this won't be the last time. People aren't gonna throw it away. A couple migt , but those will just be people we don't care to lose. Its only been hardcore fans that have dealth with the game since day one, that are still here. Almost all of us aren't going anywhere.

Yeah pretty much this. I might play something else in the meantime but I've put two years into this and don't plan on letting go of it just because I quit playing for a month or so.

Plus I hope they use this time to REALLY flood us with 2.0 info.

Several people are going to play some XI in the downtime or other MMOs for a short time until ARR relaunches. Though people that have stuck with it for this long are her for the long haul. The servers going down for a short time isn't going to hurt this game in the least.

Honestly, I wasn't expecting to see ARR until next year... Anything sooner would more or less be in time to be a holiday present X)

I'll definitely be taking advantage of the time to play some offline games (granted I just got back from a 2-3 month break from FFXIV, but I imagine I'll be ready by the time Nov. 1st comes around), but there's really no other MMOs out there that have my interest right now. It'll definitely be fun keeping an eye on things between when the server goes down and ARR comes up.
