What's funny is all the "unique" stuff we had at launch was a half-finished mess that made it worthy of the awful scores it got. Sometimes different is good but being different just for the sake of being different doesn't always work. A lot of the planned changes aren't making the game more "like WoW", they're bringing the game up to modern MMO standards. Did WoW set a lot of those standards? Yeah, though to be fair most of the ideas weren't new or unique with WoW either.
Even with all of the proposed changes though, the game is a far cry from being a WoW clone. It's got enough unique systems and the FF feel behind it. I think we'll be fine.
Honestly though, everyone with doubts is going to have to re-evaluate whether or not they really want to play this game once they get their hands on it. Seriously, consider whether this is a game you want to play. It's changing and some are going to love the changes while others hate them.
Edit: Also I think everyone's blowing Rukkirii's quote way out of proportion. She said the idea of HAVING to level by grinding monsters will be gone, basically that you will not be forced to but not that you won't be able to.

B-but I like generalizations. I'm going to completely forget that Final Fantasy I was a Dragon Quest clone, and FFXI was an everquest clone! Stop copying WoW SE be original!
