This class should craft books (I'm experienced in book-making)

My father owns a family business in handmaking books, so I know what making a book from raw materials looks like.

And if my dad and his business could be summed up into one FFXIV DoH class, it would most definitely be leatherworking.

There most definitely SOME weaving involved (sewing together the text blocks, and making the headbands), as well as some goldsmithing (making gilded designs, fancy corners, clasps, etc.)

But 90% of the time he will be working with the leather. The cover is really the most important part of making a book, and therefore, that's why I think leatherworking should make the books (and maybe goldsmith should upgrade some).

And it would probably be about time that leatherworker got to make some weapons.

(And I'm not being biased here, look at my sig. I don't even do leatherworker myself)

Oh wow, that's actually really amazing. (I've always been fascinated with handmade leather-bound tomes :< .. Even tried making one back in art class. Kinda resulted in a lopsided mess though.. teehee)

I really wouldn't mind if leatherworker made the grimoires. It would fit nicely.

Yeah, I really like large fancy old looking books. Maybe even weaver could get a hand in making SOME of them, as sometimes a really nice book can be bound in velvet (usually with much goldwork on it as well), though I don't think any OTHER form of cloth bound books are quality enough that they should ever be in FF.

And if paper needs to be made separately, it should be made by weaver or leatherworker, as the finest papers are linen and vellum.

I agree with your post OP, but after reading it, made me think of another idea.... I think it'd be really neat to have books crafted by MULTIPLE DOH jobs. There are all kinds of different books, they all range in size, color, variety of materials for pages, and as you imply in your post, the cover is the most time consuming part of making a book.

I see where you are coming from OP in considering leatherworker, and that would work very well for a leatherbound book, or a cover that used tannery, but I can very well see a book with a wooden or bark cover, made by carpenter...or possibly a book that is decorated in jewels that could be engraved with gold or gold plating, crafted by goldsmith. I could even see the possiblity or feasibilty of a book with a cobalt cover or a book crafted soley from fiber....

I think books that can be crafted, their recipes should be distributed amongst all DOH jobs so there can be more vivid and vibrant possibilities for Arcanist. I think it only makes sense this way.

Yes, but to be realistic, there are very few cloth-bindings that are any good. Cloth on a book, if not velvet or pillowed, tends to be downright cheapy and wont have a Final Fantasy feel to it. And any book decked in gold usually has leather underneath. So many Goldsmith could make that kind, but have need of a piece of leather.

If they hadn't done away with material making, then making a book could utilize a variety of different crafts.

Personally, I'd like to see SOME made by goldsmith, and SOME made by weaver, but if we're going to be anywhere near realistic, still the majority of them ought to be made by leatherworkers.
