    Gear score has always been a really shitty idea, and it's a shame Square rolled with it because other big name MMO's use it

    Gear score completely trivializes the whole fucking community and role playing aspect of the genre. You stop looking at people as individuals with preferences, habits, personality, and skill level, and instead zero in on the fucking label

    What does having a gear score have to do with role playing? No matter how good you are, not having adequate gear will cause you to be a hindrance on the group. Example being Garuda, where you can know exactly what to do and do it, but if you have less than appropriate gear, you won't be able to beat her in time. It has nothing to do with skill, and more to do with "do you meet the minimum stat requirements to even be able to clear the content?"

    The "community" is still trivialized regardless of whether gearscore is there or not. As is RP.

    Stuff like appearance tabs/vanity slots/transmogrification support RP. Hell, it also supports player individuality because we're choosing our own look.

    Preferences only work when everyone performs at the same level, which some here seem to be adverse to. Yes, to get people to respect your playing a MNK, you and BLM and RNG and DRG and all the damage dealers have to be for the most part interchangable. Same thing with tanks, and same thing with healers.

    So if you want player individuality and RP, do all of us a favor and support transmog/vanity slots/appearance tabs. If you want preferences and personality of the player to be respected, then ask the devs to ensure that the jobs all perform comparably to each other and ensure raid design doesn't favor melee or range for every fight. Don't blame that on gear score, because it has NOTHING to do with those issues.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:
