Idea to help gather specific items

I was logging for some sun lemons earlier and was getting frustrated at how many non sun lemons I was getting compared to sun lemons. After getting tons of walnut logs and gridanian walnuts and just a handful of lemons, I got an idea.

What if, say alchemists could make specific potions using 1 of the item you are hunting for and maybe a vendor bought item that gives you a potion which applies say a 10 minute buff on you. It will allow you to gather only the item you are buffed for from the appropriate locations for that duration. To balance it out, you could make it so you get no exp while under this buff and you can't get +1 items or something.

Just would help ease the frustration a bit when you are hunting for specific items.

Did you know there are already specific sweet spots to aim for when gathering items?

While you will still get a fair number of other items mixed in (especially if the item you're aiming for is a high level item), aiming for those sweet spots does greatly increase your chances of obtaining more of the item you want.

In the case of Sun Lemons, aim at -2 and then chop about halfway down the swing meter.


Otherwise the potion idea is interesting.
I personally wouldn't use something with those sorts of restrictions because I want +1 items now... but interesting idea. ^^

"Truth of Mountains" from miner however increases the chance that you wou will get what you get what you aim for.

SE is finally touching on gathering in 2.0 tho, so the way you get stuff might change anyways.

Hmm, I haven't worked on mining so maybe its worth doing so for that ability. And yeah, I know the whole sweet spot and strike thing, but it doesn't seem to work that great. At least for me.

SE touching on gathering in 2.0 is a good point. Maybe its a wait and see to see how the whole system works then, before we need to think of solutions for issues that may not exist.

It procs as much as all the rest of the abilities (read: rarely), so I think your time would be better spent elsewhere.

Well, as a miner who has spent many hours with a pick, I can confidently say:

As far as higher level ore goes (Cobalt, Electrum, Gold, Darksteel), The latter three have good pick-up rates when you mine the sweet spots (+4,+2, -4 respectively... I think, haven't mined them in awhile. lol) At least maybe 50% of the 8 strikes on the node will be the appropriate item.

Cobalt however, (-4 Iron Lake) is really very terrible, and it has an additional junk item not found in say Halatali. Hate me some Brimstone +1... lol
