Ricard had a wyvern, he didn't use it in battle, but he had one, and technically that makes him the first Dragoon in the series.

but the plot here is different jin in FF2 is:
Meaning in 2 they were friendly to dragoons. but here they aren't in fact they are enemies. i don't wanna add up because alot of people told the story of XIV DRG already. The Wyvern, also known as Wind Drakes (ひりゅう, Hiryuu?), were the steeds of Deist's Dragoons, who tamed them with the help of their pendants. In order to procreate, Wyverns drop their eggs at the spring inside Deist Cavern, where they incubate until their birth, and then wait for the call of the Dragoons.
And that Wyvern in 2 was able to get summoned (Similar to Gilgamesh and Odin in FF8).
I would say if SE want to Diversify Jobs add a Light Dragoon (w/o a wyvern) and a Dark Dragoon (with Wyvern as a pet) and people will be satisfied.
