I don't understand why some people have SUCH a big deal with it. This is a role-playing game afterall and people should pick what they feel most comfortable with. My selection should not revolve around what others think This isn't directed to OP lol

I always saw it odd for a guy to play as a chick. I don't give people crap about it but I see it as this. It is a fantasy world. so in your fantasy what do you want to be? Well some guys wish they could be strong powerful leading male role model heroes. and other guys wish to be a chick. Kinda like being gay. If you are gay then cool. I don't understand it because I am not gay but who am I to pass judgement on what you wish to be, or what turns you on, etc. Either way.. welcome.

I always felt like people should only play as the gender they are, like have SE block out female choices if your a male in real life or something. But I'm gay and I play as a male. XD

That's a very narrow view of 'fantasy'.

I come here to explore a fantasy, definitely, but 'fantasy' and 'personal ideal' do not have the same meaning.

Frankly, I don't know what my ideal is, but I certainly know I'd feel pretty sad if the only way I could pursue it was through a world that no matter how much I might wish otherwise, at the end of the day I have to accept only has reality in the experiences I get to take away from it.

Meanwhile, I've been busy exploring the fantasy of a young duelist with self-confidence issues and a fixation on martial prowess, a girl that tricked her sister into running away from home to escape a dangerous uncle, an aspiring adventurer.. hell, Lulu gave me the opportunity to see what happens when you throw an infantile, unstable, psychotic catgirl at an unsuspecting Eorzea.

There are a lot of fantasies for everyone to explore, and only a very few of them even resemble what might be described as a personal ideal. Curiously enough, the ones that do have a tendency to also be the more boring ones.

You know, Ragnarok Online did that. I don't think it still does, but at launch and for years after, it asked your gender on registration and subsequently all characters you made were the same. I certainly don't fault Gravity for it - it seemed kind of cool really. But that was a decision by the game's creators, a part of their vision. That's pretty different from a change forced by the community, no matter how much of a majority may or may not be demanding it.

It doesn't matter either way to me, girls will be boys & boys will be girls. I think of it this way sometimes: stare at a guy's ass all day, or stare at a girl's ass all day.
