What the windmills in the 2.0 trailer look like from the inside

I love the new A Realm Reborn limit break trailer. One of the most exciting aspects of it is being able to see some of the new environments we'll be traversing in 2.0. I can't wait to get out and explore that world!

What worries me, however, is the possibility that (as in the current version) many of the buildings in the world will only serve as decoration. I remember being disappointed the first time I made my way to one of the towers in La Noscea, only to find that it didn't have an inside. I ran around the periphery of the structure looking for something I could at least interact with. Finding nothing, I gave up and walked away. Eventually I stopped bothering to check out landmarks such as this, because I knew there was nothing to see.

One of the most beautiful scenes in the new trailer depicts the characters riding on chocoback past a row of gigantic windmills that look like they might be located in 2.0's La Noscea. While this gets me really excited to jump into the new Eorzea, I can't help but worry that I might find those windmills to be just as hollow as the towers that dot the landscape of the current world.

That's why I'm hoping that this time things will be different. I hope that A Realm Reborn will open up the world for us to explore. I want to go inside those windmills and find out what's there. I'd really love it if I could climb to the top and look out over the world below. And while it may be asking too much, I hope that this time I'll get the chance to actually explore Ul'dah's intricate towers and opulent rooms.

The world of A Realm Reborn offers almost limitless potential for exploration, if only it unlocks its doors.

As much as I understand your point of view .. and honestly I agree with it. You have to think about how much extra time/money it would take to make all these extra buildings "explore-able". However they have instead made camps outside the main cities more inviting and well... functional. Everything else I feel will serve as objects to beautify the environment.

So I think SE made a pretty good trade off ... I like the fact that camps in 2.0 are now living breathing hubs for quest and other gatherings. compared to 1.0 where you just went to start a guildleve.

again.. you do make a valid point. But the launch of 2.0 definitely isn't the time to focus on those "little" treasures. I'd rather SE focus on lasting changes not a building I'll probably get the thrill of going in just once and never again.

Yeah, it'd be cool to have explorable buildings like old FF titles where you'd walk into some old lady's house and steal her Elixers

....what do i need, and where do i get the substance that makes people literally ponder and write 5 paragraph topics about the insides of windmills?

    ^ this!

I was just thinking this last night when I was playing Final Fantasy Dimensions and was thrilled when I was exploring buildings and stealing crap out of pots.

ARR needs more pots to probe!

I personally think it's the 'little treasures' that actually make a game and give it, at the very least a little substance; than say, activity hubs dotted around a pretty yet soulless, shell of a world.

Though to echo the point made, it may be unrealistic, resource-wise to count on seeing this implemented with the development team having had such a short time in producing 2.0.

I agree with you, but would frankly prefer (if forced to choose) for them to obviously get everything else right first, and then perhaps expand on the interiors of buildings should it even be something they delve into at all.

I'll take not going into those windmills for everything actually working on release :P

They could make some simple instanced areas that you can port into when you use the door. Maybe put some bats in there or something, along with a note or something with flavor to give it some lore meaning. Something simple like that goes a long way.

Even if it's something that gets implemented later on down the road once 2.0's up and running -smoothly-, adding interactivity and immersion is something that tends to keep players around (at least the ones that get off on that sort of thing, and frankly, I'd think a majority of FF fans were in it for the immersion and lore just as much as the gameplay itself).

Having more explorable landscapes are nice, but if you're going to go inside a windmill I think there should be some purpose in doing so, i.e. a quest or

explorable buildings like old FF titles where you'd walk into some old lady's house and steal her Elixers
Yeah, if they make random clickable items inside buildings that reward useful consumables, that'd give me reason to scour every single last building.
