Better still, They could have GM Judge NPC's ride in on red armored Chocobo's every 30mins. or do a patrol route of all the gathering points in an area that would add up to a 30min time interval.
They wouldn't aggro you and attack, but initiate a conversation. Maybe they could make a few RP'esque conversations that just require a response from the user with no right answer. We are just looking for a live person here.

If there is no response within oh, say 2-3mins. Then the GM Judge PC pulls out his Ban hammer weapon. (Not really a real Ban from the game, but just for comedic flavor). So basically a huge hammer that is in red like the GM's armor that may or maynot say Ban on it. It can be intricately decorated in red and gold designs.

The Ban Hammer would just take a few swings that incrementally increase in damage that if not interrupted or initiation in combat or character does not run away will end up in death ultimately in death of said player.

Judge NPC mounts his Red Armored Chocobo, says something like "Justice has been served!" and rides off into the distance for his next victim!

This to me says Sqenix is serious about RMT. Gives plenty of time to prevent the encounter (if not excessively so). And does so with comedic flair, style, and variety to make it not so tiresome for us honest folk! And darn right entertaining to see a RMT bot vanquished in said manner while we fish, mine, harvest for an honest Eorzea gil living!

It's nice that they're attempting to thwart RMT before it becomes a big problem.

Unfortunately I don't see how systems like this are really going to solve the problem. Capping the amount of gathering someone can do will have more of an effect on legitimate players than RMTs.

RMTs can circumvent this system by swapping characters. Most players won't want to have an account full of characters for this.

Another great Idea. Something for when more active GM's come into play.

As a countermeasure against RMT activities, the probability of gaining items through gathering will start to decrease after repeated attempts over a long period of time. After a certain number of attempts, items will no longer be obtainable through gathering.

To explain a little more on what goes on behind the scenes, there is an internal counter which measures how often a player has attempted gathering activities. Players will start with a maximum pool of 2,500, which will decrease by 10 each time a gathering attempt is successful and yields an item. Once this number decreases to 1,000, players will find it harder to obtain items. At 0, items can no longer be obtained through gathering.

Stopping gathering for some time will bump this number back up. The recovery rate is currently set at 100 per hour.

    Hi Gildrein,

Thanks for clarifying this for all of us.

I want to add my thoughts on this issue as well. I agree that there need to be some measures to stop RMT / Botters for Gathering Materials (and I'd say even for regular players, allowing someone to mine or chop or fish all day with no penalties could flood the market with resources too fast), but at the core of the problem is that:

    * Square *made* the Miner, Botanist and Fisher as a full-on CLASS.

It's not just a simple activity to do here or there, but you're touting it as a full Class. So with that, Square needs a way to allow players who really want to be full-time, dedicated Miners, Botanists and Fishers to play longer than the current hidden "Gathering Fatigue" hits.

Or find some secondary activity to do (related to their Discipline) while the Gathering Fatigue hits that gains them some SP (Skill Points).

Or some people have suggested that Damaged attempts give more SP than the 50% SP right now to help counteract it (so people can still mine, chop and fish, and they may not get anything after Gathering Fatigue, but they can at least get more SP).

As it stands right now, Disciples of the Land classes are definitely more handicapped than other classes, and take far longer to rank up over the same amount of time.

50 Miner currently leveling Bot (30) to 50.
The system can be frustrating but it makes sense to me.
Hell, I would be broke trying to sell my gathered items vs. RMT if this system wasn't in place.
I don't think it needs to be changed.

Disciples of War, Magic and Hand can still effectively do their jobs once they hit Surplus/Fatigue. Disciples of the Land should be offered the same courtesy, we are a full fledged Job/Class system in ourselves. We are not just a tacked on additional feature like crafting and gathering is in most mmo's.

We deserve the same rights to play our class effectively as every other job in the game.

Disciples of War/Magic are meant to Fight
Disciples of Hand are meant to Craft
Disciples of Land are meant to Gather/Supply

Land are the only jobs stuck dealing with a twofold penalty system. RMT or not the system is unfair when the other Disciples do not have to deal with a similar penalty.

Hand does not auto fail craft after a few hours, War & Magic do not auto die/fail battles after a few hours, Land should not auto fail gathering after a few hours.
Once again this system is completely unacceptable. You built the game around players being able to be crafters, gatherers or fighters and then you implement an asinine system that cripples the DoLs main function. To gather and supply items.

Your RMT war has been harming legitimate players since FF11 and yay.. now you are doing it again.

You can't tell players you can "Fight, Gather or Craft" in game and then completely cripple the ability of players to do their jobs. DoLs are stuck with both surplus sp and gathering fatigue and its utter and complete BS.

At this point you may as well yank out the DOL jobs and add them as an extra utility to crafting classes. Because it is clear that DOLs will always be trailing behind and players who want to play the jbos will always be stuck trailing, not only as far as content goes, but also as far as respect goes from you devs.

This penalty also affects our ability to gain SP, which is just another punch in the balls.

If you want to stop RMT work on tools make it easier to report suspected RMTers, Gil Sellers and Botters/Hackers.

The SP gains don't even need to be equal, just better than they are currently.

Also Peregrine I agree with your point that the dev team shouldn't listen to every "popular" idea but you could have presented it in a less offensive manner.
Could have. Won't. At this point the chronic offenders are chronic. It's a lost cause to respect their opinions and coddling them isn't as effective as backhanding them after your first couple of attempts to fix them is met with more stupid ideas.

Yoshi-P has to be nice and kind and considerate when every player and their brother thinks they have the solution to what ails, but I don't. I'll pick up Tanaka's beat stick and swing it for him. I've had enough of this nonsense. There's nothing new that the player base can say or suggest that will help at this point. **** this noise.

Do what is obvious and right. End the double SP nerf and leave it the hell alone. As the other VETERAN gatherers have said in this topic, if anything needs changed about gathering it's to REDUCE production.

Don't think so? Well you shouldn't be listened to for your own good.

Its good to see a veteran gatherer disagree with the system, instead of wanting the bs to continue for those that come after just because shes "been through it". No one should ever have had to put up with the auto-fails in the past. No one needs to put up with it in the future.

Once again, no you can't have ice cream for breakfast and lunch.
    You'll understand when you're a mommy gatherer.

You think that me suggesting the cap be removed would mean only it will be changed, thats very naive. DoL are full classes whether you like it or not, thats how it is currently and they shouldn't be getting penalised more than DoW/M/H because its at the bottom of the ladder where supply starts.

There's far more problems with the economy and supply in this game than the fear of DoL being capable of going full bore. If they were so concerned with supply to crafters there wouldn't have been new ways added to get crystals. They used to be the limiting factor for crafters that was already on the verge of collapse because you can simply buy Fine Sand cheaply off a vendor.

It was hard work playing for 2 hours a day with no competition over nodes to get 1,500,000 gil/hr on gold alone wasn't it? XIV is going to crash straight into the same economy Diablo 2 has at this rate where the official currency is worthless and its reduced to trading full items. Theres absolutely nothing removing money from the economy.

I've still yet to see any MMO's that needed heavy handed restrictions on supply from whoever is gathering. I also don't know any other MMO's that have a gatherer main class other than Lineage 2 which again has no limits beyond your own personal speed. Feel free to name one that isn't by SE or a F2P that limits you on everything if you don't pay.

If they are going to keep this kind of system and keep adding more like it at the whims of the RMT market its already a lost battle. Passive measures do not work, especially when most Bots are on compromised accounts. What's going to stop one of these guys from having an entire account full of Miners right now and crashing your market because they can mine in rotations? Nothing.

Any RMT limitation is only a penalty to legitimate players, this is coming from someone who regularly death trains/kills/reports bots. There needs to be an easy to use in-game way to report botting that will be actively dealt with rapidly.

Try doing something that isn't dismissing others concerns, theres been no game I've played where I haven't been a gatherer.
