Agreedone man shouldn't be blamed for the faults of many others besides himself.
He's still on the development team as a producer.Tanaka had really good ideas for this game, REALLY GOOD (That may never be implemented)
Does not excuse how terrible the base game was on release. Do you not remember the random SP, the Stamina bar, fatigue, crap Gathering/Synthing, no content whatsoever except leves and crap storyline and it remaining that way until a few months after he stepped down? Game was a failure no matter what pipedreams Tanaka had for it.You all didn't forget about this did you?
Cake making, ship battles, etc.
And FFXI still has some terrible issues associated with it, namely Jobs being badly balanced (Typecast hard, Ninja tanks, RDM butchered) and engine issues that cause limitations. He had no experience in mmos either when FFXI came along, (This was WAAAY before WOW came and kicked FFXI off of it's pedestal) yet it happens to be one of the most profitable in the numbered series of the FF franchise.
Yup.You're all so pent up on your Tanaka/ new ASSISTANT director hate, you've all pretty much blinded yourselves to what these people have (And have yet to) provide that got us here now.
I don't recall the directors of those games completely ignoring feedback from Beta and even laughing at some of it.Look at what happened to TERA, The Secret World and SWTOR, those games suffer from the same thing that plagued FFXIV in the beginning, yet have the nerve to harp on Tanaka and whatnot as if he's the first MMO dev to make these mistakes.
It doesn't seem like he learned much from his FFXI success, either. It seems like he thought FFXI was a failure and tried to do the exact opposite of what it did :XIt's better to have failed ONCE in something, and have learned from it, than to have failed once and fail again not learning anything from your first failure.
Either way, FFXIV had good ideas and bad implementation all around at the beginning, but it's changed much since then and is going to change further. No use bringing up Tanaka's past on the project since he is now a Producer rather than Executive.

He doesn't work for SE anymore, he left during Vana Fest.
During TERA's BETAS players sent feedback regarding things called Boxes of Mischief and Crystals that were missing out of the game, Brian Knox proceeded to say that he had no involvement in the removal of those items (That were a mandatory part of the game and kept it balanced) and blamed the community.
There was a race of child like girls in the game which he proceeded to have censored because of "Unsavory People" would diminish the game. The community made a poll on keeping the unedited versions of the race, he then had the topic erased moments later.
He also has a strong belief that "Westernization is what gamers want" despite half of the content of the game missing, than it's korean counterpart, he's had the same theory since being the producer of AION
Unprofessional and immature community service
Promises of content and that (The NA version will be caught up with it's Korean counterpart) That didn't happen until QOA's patch that was released the 28th
-----------------------------------
SWTOR had a decent 6 months of life, but it also failed with an unstable engine, the producer of Warhammer online (another failed mmo) Greg Zeschuk made the same exact mistakes with this game as he did warhammer.
PVP imbalanced, promised content was never brought after 3 months (Past it's deadline)
Unprofessional community service
---------------------
TSW was bound for failure once it was released, lack of content, almost every 5 PCs looked the same due to lacking character creation, the controls were wonky, and claimed to be an "action" game when it was just tab target.
I honestly expected FUNCOM to learn from AOC.
These are examples of other Devs with 2-3 mmos under their belt and continuously makes the same mistakes over and over not even learning at all from them.
Yes, I remember all of those things, (Most of the things he had in the game I actually enjoyed, like the stamina bar) All because it was implemented poorly is the reason why the game was a trainwreck, but you can't deny that some of his future ideas for this game looked really good. And just because Yoshida is now the director of this game, doesn't make it any less of Tanaka's brain-child.Does not excuse how terrible the base game was on release. He no longer works on FFXI as of now, Akihiko Matsui took his place.
Once again, he departed from SE...
