This post needs 10x thumbs up.At least from my point of view, mostly because I want XIV to be XIV and not XI again. I didn't have fun with XI at all so if XIV becomes XI again I'm going to have to quit. This game has potential to be so much better than that.
There were some systems from XI that would work if tweaked for this game but most wouldn't. This is an entirely new and different game, for better or worse.
As for OP's complaints:
Classes and jobs aren't going anywhere if the new site is any indication (they're all still there). How they work may be changed as we've seen Dragoon has some new skills so it's likely that class and job abilities are being revamped again. Hopefully this will make them work better in the role they were designed for. As it stands the intent is that classes are for solo and small parties and jobs are meant for full parties.
Class gear was released to keep classes from going completely obsolete. With that gear people have the actual option of potentially using the class in end-game content as opposed to the job. There are pros and cons to each and with the class specific gear they won't be completely useless in spite of their pros.
Tiered spells went away because they were redundant and unnecessary, at least in the eyes of the new dev team. I agree that there's issue with Fire being the AoE spell and Thunder being the single-target spell. Perhaps we'll see changes made to that with 2.0, we'll see.
As for the need for sub-jobs, in a way we already have them it's just different. Each class can take a plethora of abilities from any other class. All jobs have two other classes (aside from their base class) which they can pull abilities from. Thus having those classes leveled helps you out on your job. It's a different but slightly similar system.
As for the gripes about BLM being awful, I just don't see it. BLM is used it practically all end-game content in some way, except for Hamlet I guess. It is always viable and useful. It is, at the very least, rarely shunned in end-game content.
This is FFXIV, not FFXI. Stop trying to make this game something it's not.
PS. Have more faith in Yoshi-P. Appreciate that he and his team are doing something that most big-name companies(and small companies) wouldn't do: completely rebuild a failed MMO from the ground up.

I asked around, and the answer was, "I don't think it will affect." I didn't know the answer, myself, and personally I'm still confused.Oh! and a quick question. With the last month or so of playing, does the level of my pugilist or archer effect what base INT and PIE I'll have,? Ex: If my Pugilist is only level 10 will it have less of an impact on BLM base INT than say the amount of impact having a 50 Pugilist would? I should probably search this, probably will, but I'd figured I'd ask while it's on topic. I could be way off here, but I'm not too concerned with being Noobflamed.
But, I'm glad to have read your post! I think this was the type of response I was looking for, when I initiated this topic--a little empathy with a personal viewpoint on the topic. Our opinions still differ from each other, but I appreciate the form of which you displayed it.
It's been mentioned several times throughout this thread, and I'll touch on them myself, lightly. Without scrolling all the way through the 7 pages that this has now become.
Before I post any more, I am fully aware that FFXIV:A Realm Reborn is coming on our doorstep. I am not making these complaints to convince any development team, any producer, any person of influence, or anybody else, to change anything that is currently existent. I just figured with the new game coming into effect, this was my last chance to blow off some steam relating the current content. We're all hopeful, in some form or another, about FFXIV:ARR. It means something different to everyone.
One, or a couple, made retort about my comment about the spell list and referred to it as cluttered, even. I'll even go as far as to agree. The spell list was cluttered, and the spell mechanics were out of touch. By, "Out of Touch", I mean the idea that a fire spell could be just as potent and powerful as a water spell, being that weakness was not factored in. Scaling from Tier I, to Tier IV, to AMII, it does seem silly that the Tier IV spells were not all the same strength, as well as the Ancient Magic. But, which has also been touched on even by myself, was the need to simply toss out a small nuke to finish an enemy in a relating situation. In my opinion, it is sorrowful that elemental affinities have not been properly introduced to FFXIV. I, personally, didn't feel the spell list was too cluttered, either.
I know my opinion doesn't matter.
I'm not asking for Black Mage to become a God Character, and I understand they're already very powerful. I'm asking for some mechanics that battle against; "I kill stuff in FFXIV: Nuke, Sleep, Nuke, Sleep, Nuke." How very exciting.
And, I do understand the grievances with the support job system, as was mentioned that it locked many players into a, "JOB/JOB or GTFO" position.
I'm also over griping about items such as Aspir being a job ability, as well as drain. These spells were the identification of Black Mage, though. Even Shantotto in Final Fantasy, Dissidia, rocked Bio, Bind, and Stun! And, I think that I will forever be against sacrificing my own combo for a Stun. I understand that Fire, Fira, Firaga is a combo, but if you ever needed more than one for a battle against a boss, you'd be stuck using Thunder only, if forbid, the boss had any other enemies surrounding it.
As I mentioned before, let's see how A Realm Reborn introduces new systems to us! I am not completely against the current system, and I'm still learning to play it effectively. As with many of us, we are afraid of change--I'm no different. ^^; Sorry if I didn't touch on all comments.
I Agree with OP 100%. SE you revamped the maps, why not do the same thing about the fail class system/Or you didn't realized that part of FFXIV failure was the battle mechanics/class system? Please fixed it SE. Or Just use FF tactics system... .2.0 looks good so far except the lack of uniqueness of he way each class or race cast spell/ hold their weapon. they do everything the same and awkward. Very bad animation>.< I really don't know how i got 2 jobs to lvl50... Because i realized i can't even play FFXIV for 5 mins anymore. Because the characters look stupid when they are fighting mobs.
Wait.. So you mean to tell me.. That we have different opinions and we haven't become mortal internet enemies? Okay... Everyone to the doomsday bunker...
On the real.. I don't see any fault in your opinion either, considering mine was familiar at one point in time. There's no wrong or right about your preferred play-style regardless of the arrogance someone might flaunt, fruitlessly trying to convince others that their opinion somehow outweighs that of the person with whom they're debating.... Especially over a video game. C'mon...
My advice to you, in general, would be to do what I do, maybe: If the pros outweigh the cons while you're formulating your opinion of the game, just try to adapt to the systems that differ from what you're used to. If it's reversed and the cons are outweighing the pros, you might be wasting your time. No need to get stressed about a video game. Overall you might just find yourself enjoying the game faster and easier if you try that first scenario rather than being upset with things that might not pan out the way you were hoping. Fighting a losing battle... or something like that.
Oh well, just trying to help and now you're 2 cents richer. B)
The class system is fine. More flexible than the job system. Why would you want the old job/subjob approach? That offers nothing that you can't do with the class system. I mean the op seem to believe "Abyssea" ruined FFXI. FFXI players would probably disagree.
It doesn't matter SE doesn't read this forums anyhow.
I tried to read all of the OP's post but started to fall asleep. ya know if you have that many issues with the game you should go play something else!!
A major update is just around the corner and the entire game is about to change and your here complaining?? i am failing to understand your logic, surely you can wait for 2.0 before you start moaning.
I think this game should be called Rupture:A Realm Reborn. Because this is a clearly not an FF game. I mean, How hard is it to make a good jobs system? it should be the easiest part and they failed on it. JUST GIVE US AN PLAYABLE JOB SYSTEM. WITHOUT THAT, YOU WILL FAIL (SE). hen u should be able to fixed the casting animation of race/jobs and spells. Make it look like am casting a strong spell. i don't wanna see blm or w.e casting a strong spell with 1 hand... Why all job/class looks like they are praying when casting spell? I could keep going, but i think you so the point. If you're going to continue the game like this. I suggest change to Rupture or FF title will be destroyed Goodbye.~!
I Agree with OP 100%. SE you revamped the maps, why not do the same thing about the fail class system/Or you didn't realized that part of FFXIV failure was the battle mechanics/class system?...
Dude, WTF is the matter with you!??
Posting twice with totally retarded comments and rants isn't making anything better. People like you like to defame an MMO and have no creative feedback shouldn't talk.
You complain about the class/job system?? Man, STFU and go back to lv.50 fishing!
