The Class system isnt really that solo friendly given you need to grind classes quite a bit to actually get access to the various skills people keep mentioning.

The whole system just seems like a placeholder to tide us all over as v1 was incomplete with no content. I look back on the Class system in disappointment that I have levelled jobs I hated and will never play again (why should a career mage have to grind gladiator for sentinel)

I would rather if the Class system was abolished. Playing solo, I found every class a lot easier to grind when I switched to the job I unlocked. Playing in a party, its disheartening that skills like Sentinel can mean whether you survive or wipe when you are playing a mage job. If the Class system is to assist solo and casual players why I am going to a party based event on my class? (Ifrit etc). Why am I giving up my signiture abilities/spells just so I can equip a cross class skill. Those cross classing skills are undermining the Job rather than assisting the Job.

Arcanist/Summoner just emphasises why Classes need to go. When the artwork for Summoner is labelled "More" pet options and "More powerful" attacks, it is indirectly belittling the use of Arcanist in the long run.

Abilities and combat to be adjusted in 2.0. We're still not sure how long it would even take to get a class/job to 50 compared to as it is now (my guess, a lot slower).

Nor are we sure what kind of adjustments they'll be making to the job balance.

And as it stands, we don't even know exactly what disadvantage you'd be at by switching to SMN, requiring you to fit into a specific role in the party (as is the case with other jobs). Right now all we have is the announcement, which doubles as an advertisement by only saying what's cool about arcanist/SMN.

I seriously doubt they'll throw away the class system. Especially after spending more than a year building a game world and story with this element in mind. What we should be hoping for is that they make switching between your class and job more pronounced, especially in jobs like DRG and MNK, where it makes no sense to be a LNC or PGL in most cases.

Those were exactly my thoughts. Why would someone want to lose their summoning skills to use some skills that they would have to level several other classes that they don't want to play to obtain?

You gave THM as an example, which is able to use AoE Sanguine Rite almost instantly for party damage reduction and MP regain. The most THM loses from BLM are Convert, Sleepga, Freeze, and Flare, which are all situational spells (a THM can use Chameleon). Burst is highly overrated, only acting as a faster and cheaper Thundaga. Any THM can pretty easily rival BLM in a straight shootout.
Loosing convert is a lot worse imo than you made it sound for fights that last longer than one full MP bar. Not to mention I'm able to make use of freeze every time the timers up.When you use burst correctly with combo in conjunction with convert it does quite a bit more than thundaga. I feel like I would rather not play at all if I had to go THM over BLM.
