Really curious how hamlet, caravan, etc, will survive going into 2.0. I can't imagine they will keep it exactly the same since, lets face it, they probably have very little appeal to the broader audience FFXIV ARR is trying to appeal to (i.e., Caravan is pretty boring). But they have created items, quests, etc, that depend on these activities. So, they have to remain in some form, or at least, be replaced by new versions of these activities.

Interesting they haven't said much about this stuff. For example, "Hamlets will be exactly the same as now." or "Hamlets will change slightly." etc.

Hamlet Defense would be still ingame, but the way to defend them can change. Like I said, details.
