Is there any way to /sign against this idea? It's not only completely unecessary given how fast you level up in this game (especially since 50 is the cap), but as others are pointing out, it makes people feel obligated to play during those time periods... and if these happen at all frequently enough people will start to depend on them to level and feel like time spent leveling outside those times is pointless. I can see the forum threads now "Double EXP weekend? Can I haz it?"

FFXI is the fastest MMO to hit cap currently if you know the right people or have the gil. The problem with all these fast leveling system is this is exactly what's killing off MMORPGs, you get to cap then bumrush the content...What "other" mmos have you been playing? WoW you can go 1-85 in a 3-4 days. the new TERA you can go 1-60 in 3 days. Im sure FFXIV is faster than XI and other J/Kmmo, but not too many people even care about those other j/kmmo. they suck.
New players aren't going to skyrocket to 50 in 3-4 without PL or a group of like-level players. Please, make a knew character then go solo a class to 50, then come back and tell us how long it took you. You really wouldnt even go that fast with a like-level group, only with a PL.
Then what's left? No developer in existence can release content to keep people happy when you can blow through everything the same day.

There, know the right people and have the gil. My response was to a person that thinks a New Player can level a class from 1-50 in a few days of Casual play. New players have no gil and most likely dont know anyone. You cant level 1-50 fresh off the boat in a few days of casual play. We have rest bonus, no need for double EXP weekend... Rest bonus is the roght way of doing things for casuals! Can't play during the week and don't play much in general? There double EXP for a bit.
But double EXP weekend on top of that, wtf? The whole weekend? That's way too much.

I'm not sure why people think this would be game breaking. It would increase traffic (buyers for my crafted items) on the weekends.
