Looking forward to them regardless though (maybe we'll get to ride them through Garlemald at some point?! )
Truthfully, the most "faithful but fair" way to do Magitek would be to introduce a special dungeon where everyone can mount up in Magitek there and there alone and wreak havoc on the surroundings. That being said, it seems much more likely that it will just be a mount that doesn't do much other than be cool and nostalgic.

XI and, now, XIV here. Yes I've tried other mmo but never more than a week to really have any real opinion on them. But perhaps of that though I welcome many of these changes in XIV (jumping, icon inventory (even from the basic fact that we recognize icon faster than text)).

"With Final Fantasy XIV… yes, the feedback on release was negative, but that negative feedback was also press. You know what they say: no press is bad press.

There are a lot of people that know about Final Fantasy XIV because of that bad press, so we’re using that to springboard the publicity of what we’re doing now."

Yoshi-P... this man, he just gets it. I don't think I've ever heard or seen anything from him that didn't make me want to cheer. Maybe it's just because I remember the old Tanaka interviews, where he looked so tired and bored out of his mind and responded to everything with "please wait a bit longer".

I agree. I don't want a good UI, responsive movement, normal features like mailboxes, or jumping. Jumping killed my father (people jumping near him caused him to be so annoyed that he died (the doctor said it was a heart attack from eating too much steaks but I think he was a WoW player so he was probably lying))

"But that doesn’t mean that some of the spin-offs on handhelds, iOS and browsers won’t use the more manga/cartoony style of something like Final Fantasy Tactics. Maybe it would be a good idea to launch a casual online game that used that kind of style…"

OMG YES!!!! Maybe even...FF Tactics Online!! :0

MMOs are really no different in some ways to organized religions. FFXIV is trying to be very progressive while there are those few who still abide by the barbaric old testiment.

I am the same way, and I can list which games I have played. FFXI was my very first MMORPG, but I also played Phantasy Star Online EP 1+2 on the Gamecube, but never played it online until i played the private server last year.

    So from FFXI.
    Rappelz (Free to play)
    2Moons (Free to play)
Perfect World International (Free to play)
World of Warcraft (1 month free, 2 months paid)
Aion (1 month free, 1 month paid, free to play now)
Phantasy Star Online EP 1+2+4 Private Server (Free to play)
Phantasy Star Universe (1 month free)
Phantasy Star Online 2 (Currently Playing)
Fantasy Earth Zero (Free to play)
    Ragnarok Online (Private Server)
    RF Online (Free to play)
    Flyff (Free to play)
    Maplestory (Free to play)
    Mabinogi (Free to play)
    Nexus (Free to play)
    Tera (Closed Beta)
    Dragon Nest (Free to play)
    Vindictus (Currently playing)
    Spirit Tales (Currently playing)
Blade and Soul (Korean Beta Test)

Though, I have to admit that most of these games were really enjoyable, but I have stopped playing most of them due to the release of FFXIV, and I cannot find myself to download these games again other than the other two games I am currently playing. If i were to download any of them again, I would probably check out Perfect World.

I also have to include that a few of my friends have recommended Guild Wars and the upcoming Guild Wars 2. I would like to try GW2 but am flustered about the story, and if I should play GW before GW2. Everquest was also another recommendation but I can't find myself to play it. lol

I also do not play very many streamline games like Lord of the Rings Online, or Star Trek, or Star Wars. I've always disliked video games based on movies or books. Besides Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. That game is awesome xD

The big thing to ask yourself about the current MMO market is quantity over quallity.

We all know WoW has a ton of subscribers but aside from the massive stroke of good fortune it has Blizzard knows they lose players at a stagering pace while they attain new ones constantly. A game like FFXI or Ultima Online subsisted off a smaller but dedicated group of players to keep the game profitable.

Now we have seen many MMO's be suscessfull for many years using a more narrow targeted market as it's playerbase, and we have seen a singular MMO be rewarded for being (No offence) Instant gratification, and also watch many, many MMO's fail trying to replicate this formula.

I'll give SE the chance to show me what they can do, but I'm not a instant gratification kind of guy I want goals that are hard to work towards and take time/luck/skill/the whole gammet to complete. If the game just hands all of it's rewards out on a silver plater to keep players interested until the next patch makes it all obsolete...then I'll will be leaving that's all there is to it.

(On the thread of MMO experience)
    Ultima Online (5 years)
    Everquest (1 year)
    FFXI (7 years)
    FFXIV (Launch-current)

I know what I like in a MMO and if FFXIV can't deliver I hope they can be sucsessful and maybe someday make another Final Fantasy MMO that I will enjoy.

I don't know why forumites are so concerned over telling the dev team to design the game with broad appeal instead of how they would find it enjoyable...call me crazy but they asked for our opinions on how to make the game fun not a Happy meal.
