Theyre not bringing it up to todays standards. WoW wasn't released today.Sorry, but after that disaster that was 1.0 saying that 2.0 being brought up to todays standard is bad is pretty stupid to me.
They failed with innovation, so right now it's better if they can at least copy what's good. Of course not everyone loves quest-leveling, but the same way not everyone loves what we have now. You can't make everyone happy. They decided on a route they're going to take and that's it. Like it or leave it, as they say. At this point it's not gonna change, S-E is not another ArenaNet, and that's reality.
And the majority of the standards since then have not changed that much if you can realize that. The problem was that 1.0 was not even close to meeting them, it was worse than a subpar product, while right now it seems like we'll finally get a full fledged game. Once again, it's your problem that you don't like their direction. Tough luck, your whining all over the place won't change anything, but I guess you need something to do.
Also stop throwing the WoW talk all round, because no one takes that stuff seriously nowadays, it's a really weak argument.
Well, I'm out anyway, don't want to further drag the silly argument.

Well exactly, if it's okay to clone a 2004 game, why not 2003, 2002? Whats so special about 2004? Answer: $$$. WoW was a successful model back then, but their subscriptions are decaying today too.
But I guess it was just easier for them to justify to the corporate big wigs the idea of copying a successful game feature-for-feature rather than copying the idealogy which made it a successful game in the first place: innovation.
Hey, they already tried innovation. The result was 1.0 and everyone hating them. Even if they polished it up, 1.0 is still fools gold. It's easy to say "innovation" when you'll have no part in it. But for these guys, they need to make a successful MMO no matter what or they get the boot.Well exactly, if it's okay to clone a 2004 game, why not 2003, 2002? Whats so special about 2004? Companies nowadays need to understand that popular does NOT equal good... I would really hate to see 2.0 turn into yet another WoW clone. :/
Just because WoW is popular doesn't mean it's actually that good. I couldn't stand that game for more than a week, and I believe SE could do a lot, A LOT better than that (Heck, they kept me hooked with XI for almost 7 years as opposed to one week). Maybe it wouldn't be as popular as WoW, but I (and I'm sure not just me) would be much happier with a good game instead of a rip-off of a popular one...

Well my opinion about ArenaNet is that they just copied the Warhammer/Rift public quests). public events like we see GW2 are nothing more than copying the public quests of Warhammer and the Rift events of rift...
i really dont know why the media tells everyone that this should be new. it is... totally not!
But ArenaNet knows how to sell their so unique-called public events.
and you WILL see that those low level public events will be almost dead after some months.
really i would not say that leveling during public events is so much better than traditional quests..
the big disadvantage of Guildwars 2 is, that you for most of the time play solo. because you dont have to group up with other players, even when playing together public stuff.
but you are right when saying that square enix is primary looking for the MMorpg standards and not for introducing OWN ideas. hopefully there will still be some own ideas.
I mean the Limit-Break system for example is an idea which was created by them. no? so i still dont think that they are copying everything. its about the standards.

This threads going to be nuked for forcing a link elsewhere. Why not just post the interview in the OP?
So the game still looks good with everything on low? That's pretty cool.
Frankly the way I see it, just getting the basics down is probably their best bet and offers the biggest security net in the long run. After they've established the game they can implement the new elements that brings something greater to the table to make it an actual FF game in itself. Even if it starts off as a WoWish, they can and will most likely evolve it into something newer and better.
