New jobs - Unique progression methods? (summoner)

Actually, I'm only using summoner as an example, but one thing I really dislike about the job system is the method of advancement. I like that progression and obtaining skills for jobs requires questing, but every job currently in the game quests in the same manner. It's always the 6 quest, 'mobs, nm, nm, chest, boss' structure

What I'm hoping is for future job advancement to flow in more unique ways, and an excellent place to start would be with Summoner. Why not have their questing based around the seeking and defeat of their summons? A fairly customary tradition for FF titles. Creating difficult summon battles, perhaps with their own quests leading up to each one would provide a steady sense of progression, with exciting content every few levels.

Or further examples for potential jobs, Machinist having to buy tools from the various towns and locations in game, or Blue Mage progressing by, well, hunting mobs to obtain BLU magic. Basically, anything that makes each individual job a more unique experience

So, pretty much how it was in FF11?
    I daresay i support it.

Also, possibly making jobs more unique than adding 5 skills to then >_<

I liked how you learn skills through quests for jobs.

I support this thread, though the storylines are different, the approach to get the AF armor is exactly the same! I would like the FFXI Approach.

I highly agree with your sentiment. I mean I understand af gear being quested but I wished that actual abilities for a job were quested or learned through some means to make me feel more attached to the job. Maybe for MNK I could study under a sensei, A DRG can learn their abilities from elder wryms or something... Lol BLM's would have to travel to far off lands and expose their bodies to a particular element!(ect traveling to a top of a mountain and getting struck by lighting to learn thunder)

Summoner was the first advanced job I unlocked in FFXI. It was the job I was most looking forward to playing (and still is), and it was the first job I got to 75. At the time, I really didn't know too many people so most of my help came from my trusty Brady Guide! xD

Having said that, earning fame and soloing every avatar (lesser, of course) was some of the most fun I had in FFXI, it really made me feel like I earned my avatars, because in all honesty I put in a lot of effort. I wouldn't mind seeing that sort of... "pilgrimage" if you will again in FFXIV. A challenging one on one fight, SMN vs summon would be pretty cool to see.

Or we can let FFXI be FFXI and

It really makes no difference to me how distinct the goals of each questline are. The quests are similar because their purposes are similar.

FFXI still had a basic flow of > job quest > quest for af1 > quest for af2 etc.

You can oversimplify anything to sound the same. The fights for each job are different, the dungeons they have to go to are different, the storylines are different. This isn't as far apart form FFXI as you'd like to believe.

Those lvl 20 solo avatar fights were some of my favorite memories of ffXI. Up that winding road with carby scampering beside me to the waiting doom at the top. I had to turn the sound off or my hands would shake too much to work the controller. XD

Let FFXI be FFXI I agree, however taking certain aspects that made the game great and bringing them into FFXIV like the UI for 2.0 has that WoW feel to it ( and I hate wow) does that mean its not welcome? Let WoW be WoW?

That's how FFXIV sunk in the first place, they tried to invent something without thinking it through and it Messed up FFXIV First Launch Terribly.

There's Absolutely nothing wrong with taking certain aspects that made "Successful" games great and putting them into FFXIV. I'm not saying copy Wow, I'm not saying Copy FFXI, I'm saying that Mechanics that made those games great, and turn them into a FFXIV style Version is totally fine.

    That's how I feel anyways.

    I agree with everything said here, as I did the same. But, leveling up fame was so bloody annoying. ;_;
