It's obvious that the main purpose of 2.0 is to re-release the game to those who gave up or never tried it. If you don't like that the best thing to do is unsub until there is new max level content, or anything for the capped player to do at all. I'm waiting to see exactly what we get with 2.0 release before I decide... leveling a new character and experiencing all the new content seems pretty fun, but I have every job 50 and all I'd be able to do is an Arcanist/Summoner. Well, we'll see

They cannot under ANY circumstance allow 2.0 to become another 1.0. They absolutely NEED to ensure that there are oodles and oodles of content right out of the gate for this thing. It doesn't matter if they don't have PvP or the Crystal Tower out(we have no idea what Crystal Tower is going to entail), but they NEED to ensure that there is PLENTY to do. They also need to make sure they actually use the feedback they gather over the alpha and beta tests.

I would also agree that they need to have time frames for the things they'll be adding, and supplement those general time frames with actual details. None of the vague "we're working on adding companies soon" shtick that Tanaka fed us after 1.0 bombed.

They can add Arcanist/Summoner, and maybe even musketeer, but it won't mean jack diddly if there isn't anything to do in the world or new places to explore(more than 5 would be a nice starting point). Sorry gang, even in its current pre-2.0 state, FFXIV doesn't have nearly as much compelling content as you'd like to believe.

JPGames-Frederick: There was much talk about planned content for Final Fantasy XIV 2.0, which content will be there right from the start and which will be implemented later? I’m talking about content such as PvP, Crystal Tower, free companies, free companies housing, chocobo breeding system etc.

Yoshida: About the Crystal Tower and the chocobo-racing and the free companies, we cannot have this right at the launch, about PvP … we hope to have it at launch but because of all the balancing issues and with me being a hardcore PvP-player we want to make it perfect before releasing. We might have to keep adjusting and because of that we might not make it in time but if that is the case we hope to have it at the latest within a few months after launch and hopefully at the launch. The same thing goes for the housing system, but we hope to have that very soon after launch as well.

So the most exciting ARR content/features like Crystal tower, chocobo raising (the article says racing? error?) and free companies (NO GUILDS ???! ) will not be avaible at launch.
PvP in doubt too, and housing they hope a bit after...

At this point i suppose they're behind the schedule.. I would prefer to release it perfect some months after with a lot of beta testing (so not only to give them more time for content, but to resolve every bug or technical issue) , than release once again, an incomplete game.

And this will have a big impact on launch reviews. Think about this SE.
Those features will be released within time within a few months after the game is released. Remember that a lot of gaming websites review MMORPGs a week or two after they are released because of trying the game out and seeing the content. Plus ARR with its current launch content is enough. I want to experience what it has to offer when it releases, and I can wait for those other promises that were made to be released.

All places would be new. Only the names of the places would be old.

None of those were said to be at launch for 2.0, the dungeons and other stuff they rarely talk about were. They left 90% of that as "coming IN 2.0" not coming AT 2.0 launch.

Plus for newer players the current content revamped and what content they add at 2.0 launch should keep them busy until more is released and for us I am sure we will spend tons of time checking out the changes to our world and the old/new content aswell.

These threads are such a headache lol. Look, 2.0 is not an expansion but a new release. A. New. Release. If you take one thing from this post, please take that. New releases do not have a lot of endgame content because, clearly, they are new. Why would you have a lot of endgame content when most of your players aren't going to be there for a while. Basically you have *something* (in this case what we have now) while you simultaneously work on the next content release. Usually you will have it mapped out in regards to time. It will take the avg person x amount of hours/days/months to get to lvl cap and dry out the current endgame content. They approximate these things after all, the level curve is designed to buy them time. While all this is going on, they will get feedback on current content. They will patch, balance, etc etc...and maybe even adjust the next content release they had planned. Then when it looks like the playerbase is ready for new things, they drop new things. Hurray! And everyone cheers.

Why anyone expects a bunch of new endgame content is truly beyond me. This is a re-release, not an expansion pack. All the new content will be from lvl 1 to lvl 50. We'll probably have some new things but not a lot in terms of endgame. Its mostly about the new guys.

EDIT: Besides, most of us will be working on relics.

Instead of settling for mediocrity, let's challenge SE to release something that's full blown instead of bare bones.

I have no doubt 2.0 will be miles better than 1.0 launch (not hard) yet let's not just jump on the 'whatever SE gives us, we will love' bandwagon mindlessly. THIS is what caused 1.0 to fail more than anything else. You had a group of white knighters with their heads in the sand - people that were going to play FFXIV no matter what - and then the rest of the consumer base going what the crap is this?

Its not people on this forum that need to be convinced to play - its everyone ELSE! And SE is going to have to launch with something fantastic to recover from all the ill-will it garnered in 2010.
So players that are ok with waiting a little while for certain content are "White KNights"? Where is it someone was quoted saying "I love everything SE gives me"?I tire of rhetoric like this and it does nothing to promote civil conversation or discourse on matters some people don't see eye to eye on. If people are looking for the reason why these forums are filled with some of the most vile, pathetic, confrontational people on the internet, look no further than posts like yours. I see none of what your saying in any of the posts in this OP.

    Blocking you in 3,2,1.......

As to the OP, while I agree that these things will be missed at launch, your claim that there is "very limited content' at launch has no actual basis in fact since you have absolutly ZERO idea how much content will be in at launch.

I'm it has been said and I'm sure it has been thought but, at least in my eyes, there is a huge possibility that the original team was under the impression that the name alone could carry the game. This likely gave them the idea that could release an incomplete game on faith and name. In addition to this, it can also be thought that the same people theorized that they would automatically gain a huge chunk of the XI base. What ended up happening was that the game was such a departure from even semi-traditional MMO's that they lost it all. Had it just been unfinished we might be playing a different version of XIV today but unfinished and radical doomed it.

That was good in 2002. Not now. Lot of people left SWTOR because of lack of endgame content. Players (new ones) won't wait, if after couple of months, there isn't enough, they will leave.

Customers are way more volatile today unlike one decade ago.

True that we have no idea on how much content will be actually in at release timing (or at 30 days after release (end of free month)). End of the free month, 2nd month (end of first paid month) and end of 4th month (end of 90 days billing period) will be deadlines for SE to deliver.

If within 60~120 days after release there isn't enough content (real content and not farm hamlet defense all day long to get a relic), people will leave, it's as simple as that.

We can make any excuse we want. Its a new game, not an expansion but a re-release, if you start from level 1 you have plenty of content. That does not matter a huge chunk of the population has most jobs at 50.

IT does not change the fact that if there is not enough content for those with all level 50 classes/jobs atm... you will have an exodus of players. We waited for this game to get endgame once.... I do not see many people giving SE a third chance if they bomb the content department again.

They might have alittle time after launch... like 1-2 weeks tops to get endgame ready if it is not at launch.
