While SE deserves a lot of credit for... let's say, facilitating and enabling the FFXIV team to make all these changes, I think that there's really one person who deserves the most thanks: Yoshi P.

I don't know if people realize the enormity of the feat that he has pulled off**, especially considering the position he was put in 1 1/2 years ago. As a relative unknown, he was given the enormous responsibility of fixing one of the most expensive projects ever produced by SE. A project they had run into the ground, doused with gasoline, and lit on fire. Not to mention having a lot of the 'important' staff jump ship as soon as it failed. Since that time, not only has he vastly improved and expanded the current version of FFXIV, he also kept us updated at least once a month on the happenings of the game, built a dedicated and talented team around him, taken trips to many different events for PR purposes, and kept his word every. damn. time. he's given it (except when he couldn't, in which case he made sure to explain to us why he couldn't). And all the time he was listening to our every little whim, he was building a brand new game.

Yoshi P has constantly earned my respect and my admiration for the job he's done. I can't tell you how relieved I was after seeing the gameplay footage.

So thanks, Yoshida-san! You've made a believer out of me.

But I am happy to see them TRYING to make their game better. They are actually listening to the community, which is rare in the MMO world.

We're paying to experience a quality game, and a lot of that quality comes from them listening to critique and issues so we don't end up with things like random server transfers and dye based stats.

We can't just shower them with praise, they'll think the game doesn't need improvement and continue to make poor decisions. They need us to be grounded in reality as customers, not fans.

I wanted to write a letter to the Development team, and write a thank you letter to the entire group. I know the FFXIV team has a lot of work ahead of them, but I see their hard work is paying off for me and many players. To the development team, please do not listen to the negativity, focus on making the game as great as you know you will make the game, and the players will support you as best we can. Thank you!

Depends on what you define as negativity. Telling SE that they suck and ARR will fail obviously doesn't help, but telling them that a certain piece of content is bad, even in a mean way, helps more than just telling them they're doing a good job.

I think one has to differntiate between constructive feedback and negative "doomsaying" (is that a word? I just know the word "doomsayer" so I derived that from it :P ).
While I'm all the way for feedback and constructive criticism (at Gamescom they asked us to give us as much feedback as we can!) I'm not for talking the game "down" based upon assumtions or displeasure (maybe from the point of view of press writers).
Let's stay in the present, give feedback on everything we can and wait how the game will look when it's approaching its final phase.

So, to SE: Please take our feedback serious and thanks for listening to it! But don't let any bad spirit that people might spread about you pull you down! You've done a great job so far, team Yoshi!

Yeah SE pulled a world first with taking such a poorly-received game and turning it upside down into something amazing, and an MMO at that. The media is really liking what they see and peoples' opinions have been changing all over the place. Most of the people I have seen trolling the game by calling it garbage have seen the recent reviews and they're like "... are you kidding me? really? ... well I guess it's not so bad".
