What I am trying to get is when the "PC" "Free Trial Period" comes in November, do we keep any progress we made in 2.0 up to full retail release?

Most likely not Betas don't usually keep your information ( except what you earn during your time in 1.0), In a German rep post they said PC will have a Beta but they make it sound like it's going straight to open beta.
They also said that characters are going to be transferred and we get to use our characters in the Beta, (Speculate further) if that's the case then maybe our data will be preserved during the beta so it kinda " Acts" like a Pre-release for the people that are currently playing. but that's like 30k people... unless they plan to just go straight into an Open Beta for the PC only...
/shrug Who knows, hopefully more clarification from the interviews being held will shed more light.

That is where the confusion lies. This isn't your normal MMO release. This is a revamp of a previous game. I feel like anything can go here. I really would like a Rep to come out and explain the situation here. You don't have to give dates, but you need to explain what you mean in the time line. Will our character data be preserved during the beta phase? Will any progress I make in the "Free Trial Period" be counted in before the technical release date? They are simple questions SE.Most likely not Betas don't usually keep your information ( except what you earn during your time in 1.0), In a German rep post they said PC will have a Beta but they make it sound like it's going straight to open beta.

Well, like this Quote says:That is where the confusion lies. This isn't your normal MMO release. This is a revamp of a previous game. I feel like anything can go here. They really are "Aiming" for a Late Fall-Early Winter Release, but if they "Feel" as if they need a bit more time to flesh out the bad stuff then it will be pushed back till Januaryish.“Next year! We're still figuring that out. You know, we want to get it right. I think it'd be earlier rather than later. I don't think we'll go as late as Christmas or anything like that but we want to get it right. Obviously, the first time we put out the game, it wasn't… ready so, this time around, it has to be right.”
So we kinda have an "Around the ballpark" Month for A Realm Reborn, If we the Forum people and Beta people feel as if the game needs more time to flesh out the bad stuff, we the FFXIV players need to speak up during the beta, we need to band together!.
This doesn't answer if our progress in 2.0 is preserved in the "Free Trial Period" which is sometime after October.Well, like this Quote says:

Well.. that is something else entirely.. I mean it depends how they are take the " Free Trial Period".
Personally: I feel the when people say " Free Trial Period" I see a Retail Launch of the game and this is your free Period to try out this game before we charge you.
What I think SE is Planning: I think that when they say " Free Trial Period" I think they mean (While were in beta we have this time to not pay anything to SE till the Beta is completed and your Free month as up at Retail Launch.
It really all depends on how they are phrasing the Free Trial Period that determine what it actually means. I really hope a Interview can help shed that light.
I believe the January 2013 date line is for the PS3 Version of the game. The PC Version is still up in the air.“Next year! We're still figuring that out. You know, we want to get it right. Think this employee made a boo-boo. The "I don't think we'll go as late as Christmas or anything" may be out of context, but probably not the best way to frame the release of ARR. Especially since most people are expecting a January 2013 date.
