Well we still have a couple months. I would expect news maybe sometime at the end of September or beginning of October.

"Problem is the game was bad at launch.. MMORPGs find very hard to get the customers back even if they fix some of the major issues and make the game fun..
Take AOC for instance, that was released with quite a few bugs and it took funcom quite a bit to get ti right but when they did the game was actaully one of the best themepark games on the market.. Sadly because of the bad launch people where just not willing to give it another go.. that distrust from people even boiled over into the launch of TSW where people refused to try it because they thought it was going to be bug ridden like AOC. if SE can pull this off and get people back to the games hats off to them.."
This was a comment from one of those articles. I think they're still thinking what SE is doing is polishing and bug fixing, and comparing it to AOC? This is wrong.
They need to know this is a brand new game rebuild from the ground up..

“Next year! We're still figuring that out. You know, we want to get it right. I think it'd be earlier rather than later. I don't think we'll go as late as Christmas or anything like that but we want to get it right. Obviously, the first time we put out the game, it wasn't… ready so, this time around, it has to be right.”
Think this employee made a boo-boo. The "I don't think we'll go as late as Christmas or anything" may be out of context, but probably not the best way to frame the release of ARR. Especially since most people are expecting a January 2013 date.

W00t we get to use our characters in the Beta Test, looks like we'll only be without them for 4 - 6 weeks of Alpha testing

Seeing those threads and comments, I'm very glad the other communities (even non-FFXIV) are enjoying the media way more than we are here lol. Here we get 20 bitching threads about nothing, other sites are just happy to see the improvements.
That makes me happy, FFXIV: ARR will have a fair shake!

I hope they'll let GW2 and WowPanda come out, wait for everyone to get a bit bored, then hit us with ARR in Dec just nice for Xmas.
I can see 1.23 running through Sep, October shutting the 1.0 servers, 3 weeks with nothing, then Beta for PC in Nov.
I guess we'll see, but even though they've said PC and Ps3 will release simultaneously, I just can't see that happening. I'd bet money on PS3 version having a Beta in Jan and coming out in March.

My understanding of the order of things:
Servers go down
Alpha goes up 4-6 weeks
Character transfers begin
Beta goes up (with transfers completed)
Open Beta goes up.
Launch.
This fits pretty much exactly with the timeline. It also puts 2.0 in the hands of the players in October-November, and launch for mid-late winter 2013.

I think FFXIV ARR has a great chance actually. There aren't any MMOs scheduled for release in January - Feb 2013 is there?
I feel that GW2 will disappoint because it's been overhyped, and people don't really understand that no subscription meaning there will be less updates. Therefore, after people run out of content, that's it. They'll move on.
