You have no idea how much of a troll you sound like right now, trying to discredit an argument by making the poster you quoted look bad. Good grief. I have two crafts and two gathers at 50, when I'm wiping against garuda ten times in a row, I go from 100% to 0-20% on all my gear. This is expensive and time consuming unless I have a friend who has all crafts at 50, that just happens to be available and wants to help me out.
Healer strike is ridiculously foolish and accomplishes nothing

The issue is that, aside from Materia stuff, there isn't too much reason to have crafting classes around at endgame stuff, if we take out repairs. All of the best gear is now starting to drop from bosses and dungeons, and I guarantee you that with the emphasis on more instanced stuff going forward, we'll soon be decked out head to toe in that stuff.
Repairs gives crafters a reason to still exist, plus it slows down the pace of running a dungeon over and over. Get together in a community (oh you know, the whole point of an MMO) with other people that have higher leveled craft classes and repair your stuff.
It gives people more reason to come together, and more of an importance for crafters at endgame. I see nothing wrong with the repair system (although, they could slow down the rate at which stuff breaks a bit.)
