As long as it's kept some what subtle I am all for the localization team having a bit of fun and slipping in little references.

yeah kinda figured. tv and movies now a days do that as well so meh. I have no problem with it hell se has been doing it since airships with calling them the "Enterprise" and Biggs and Wedge (they are pop cultural references even though they are classic icons in the ff games)
