I read somewhere, to SHOW OFF detail it is why SE adjust the size.
The only issue I really have is that the size of monsters is all relative. Hell in XI most beastmen were actually physicall larger the higher level they were. Stand a level 1 goblin next to a 75 goblin and you could tell who was stronger at a glance.
It's just a shame that monsters didn't scale in size the higher the level they got. Small gnats could be low level ones, larger gnats obviously got stronger.
The most ridiculous big sized are the Toads, they were already Gigantic and after the change they are Extra Gigantic, can take a whole screen.
As long as the we don't start getting enemies that are the same race as us but inexplicably two times bigger (ala-wow) I don't care.
Wasn't it because the players didn't want to kill small things all the day?For those who hasn't been playing since the start:
When the game came out, the controls and UI was so horrid (and still isn't the best out there) that monsters had to be resized to be 2 or 3 times bigger so players would be able to target them easier, but with ARR on the way and it promising a much better UI and enhanced battle system and targeting, I've been wondering if there is a possibility of monsters returning to their original sizes.
It just amazes me, how SE screwed this game up right from the start, with something as simple as mob sizes. I agree with you OP, the alleged fix to make the mobs bigger, in some circumstances is absolutely ridiculous, almost laughable. You would think, that a company of this caliper, would get the damn thing right.
I'd like them to keep the big mob sizes, but they really do need to make the toads a bit smaller, they fill up my whole screen when running past them or fighting them.
I actually like the new and bigger gnats. They look like some really fucking nasty hellspawn wizard-insects that will eat your hand off in one bite.
Are you sure about this? The only size difference I have noticed is betwen non-NMs and NMs. Except in abyssea. There we have variable sizes but they don't always correspond to levels. The only issue I really have is that the size of monsters is all relative. I like the current enemy sizes, although it took a little while to get used to puks.
And FF11 never had different sizes between low and high level non-NM beastmen.
