I like the way Yoshida is implementing stuff directly from other FF games. I always wondered why they never really did much of this in XI.
I think what Tanaka wanted to do with XI was create a brand new idenity out of it, within the same brand name and universe, similiar themes and such, but a stand alone as every other game was without any direct reference to a previous title specifically. Whereas Yoshida is doing something similiar, giving it a new world, new storylines and characters, but paying tribute towards certain elements of previous titles that made the title as a whole stand out. Which I'm loving, it means there is potential for a lot of things to arise in time, such as the Gold Saucer for instance.
And honestly, never really paid much attention to the producers of XI, if Tanaka was the head director in the beginning of XI or not I dont know. May have been someone else?
