I think the point is: You use the same name as an old linkshell that has a bad reputation (and share a few members from that time) you're going to share their reputation. It doesn't matter if it's true or not, it's hard to avoid it.

It's like naming your linkshell "Dragon Quest" and then claim that none of you are fans of the series or even played it. It can be true. Maybe you just thought the name sounded cool. Maybe the old members were actually Dragon Quest fans but aren't on the shell anymore, and the new ones really had nothing to do with that.

Regardless, if I see someone on that linkshell, I'd assume they are Dragon Quest fans. It's a logical association.

Or maybe when the original leader including myself and Bert left 11 for WoW the FFXI LS shouldn't have kept our name. Wasn't aware the LS got such a bad rep from the members that didn't reform and tried to keep the name since it was made popular back then.

Yea, use the leader as a scapegoat when you're just as guilty... that always works.

Difference of parser vs something like fraps.

Parser messes with and analyzes the game's log files, which is against the terms of service.
All fraps does is record whatever the hell is onscreen, and doesn't mess directly with game files.

One can get you banned. The other cannot.

One is approved by SE and many other mmos, the other isn't.

What? I'm saying the people who didn't move to WoW with the rest of the original leaders that did should have reformed and changed the LS name from something other than what we established. That way they wouldn't have given the LS name such a bad name.

I mean, it would make sense for them to have done that, no?

It's unfortunate that it happened, but at this point you can't really change the past.

I'm not saying you guys should change your name now or whatever, just trying to explain why people would associate you guys with them and why changing that rep isn't as simple as posting "no we don't".

That said, I wouldn't worry too much about what others think about this at all.
