When beta comes 1.0 FFXIV servers are going down?
I made a typo. Sadly I can't edit the title. I'm sorry for all the pain and suffering this will inevitably cause.


I did not know this:

GE: Speaking of Beta, will there be downtime between current game and 2.0?

Yoshida: What’s going to happen is that after the current version is finished and storyline over, the servers will go down and the 2.0 beta will start up. We want to make sure we don’t make the same mistake as before, and want to be sure we have enough time not only for the beta test but also to get feedback from the players and leave enough time to implement that feedback. Also, keep in mind that transferring the characters to the new servers and systems could take up to a month. So that process will be running while the beta test is in place. There can’t be a launch immediately after the current servers are shut down.

GE: So the beta test and current game will not be operating simultaneously?
Yoshida: No. Because we need the time to convert the data from the current version to the new version, we can’t have people keep playing because they will keep updating their data. That doesn’t mean we are not going to work hard to make sure the servers aren’t down for a long time. We know that the community is there and want to maintain that community.

GE: How much downtime do you expect between the end of the beta test and the launch 2.0?

Yoshida: It won’t be anything like the next day, but we hope to have it be as short as possible. We need enough time to make sure everything is right and start it smoothly.

GE: Do you have any ideas yet on how will people get into beta?

Yoshida: We decided not to tie it directly to the legacy campaign, but we want to prioritize getting the current players that are playing now into beta.

So the means to me, and please correct me if I'm wrong. I hope I'm wrong:

The servers are going down at some point before 2.0, and we will not be able to access our characters until the transition is complete. Which could be up to a month later. Those with beta keys wont be able to play at all, and even those with beta keys wont have access to their accounts.

Find a different game to play

Or, play beta with alternate characters.

Yes -- they don't want us constantly updating 1.0 so they can minimize the amount of work you'll have to "redo" when 2.0 goes live. So if you don't happen to get a beta invite, you'll pretty much be FFXIVless for a bit lol.

The good thing is, it will go into a "free trial" era which means you won't be charged.

Well, since 2.0 is "basically a new FFXIV", that transition isnt something that easy to do and it DOES take time. And just like Yoshi said "we can’t have people keep playing because they will keep updating their data" or you'd have people b***hing that they lost X item or something like that.

And yeah, during beta it will be a "whole new world", which IMO its kinda nice, so someone who has all jobs lv50 can have the same experience as someone who just started (lore, cg wise and stuff like that) at least for those who care bout that, xD

Well if its something they have to do there is nothing that can be done about it. I just hope it doesn't take too long.

As others have stated, it's pretty obvious as to why 1.X is going down during the 2.0 beta. They'll be transferring our data over during that time so they can't have us playing and changing that same data while moving it. Hopefully they'll use the 2.0 beta time to make sure that all of the data is properly and carefully moved over to 2.0.
