I think it's a smart choice considering it has subscription fees. That puts it around the usual launch price of other MMOs for PC.
Another smart move, lowering the gateway to entry. People will still be leery of a subscription based service with all these AAA titles going free to play or buy to play, but we'll see what happens in the long run.
Nice move to bring ps3 user.. i suppose the pc vers. will cost the same.. ppl should buy it now :P
I hope they do things right on the Sony side as well. Having a downloadable PSN release as well as the disc-based release would be nice. Sure it takes up a TON of HDD space but that option exists for people who want it. I've even considered upgrading my PS3's hard drive for that reason![]()
Free to play games tend to die off after a month or 2 after release, it will only be a matter of time ( except for maybe GW2) but with free to play games has a lot of limitations to it. I mean I love free games, but from my experience it just gets boring after awhile, and most F2P games are clones of another MMO game. In due time, those with P2P models will eventually get those players (maybe) when they get tried of the F2P games and want a Real MMO.
But like you said will see in the long run. Dropping the price on the PS3 to 40 bucks was a wise move and will probably get some extra buys in.
I thought the disc release would need a full install anyways, so the HDD space used in the end would be the same as a digital release...I hope they do things right on the Sony side as well. If I'm not mistaken, that's not how the disc-based releases work for the PS3. I mean I know games install but usually it's only a small portion, often no more than 4 GB. I've yet to play a disc-based MMO release on the PS3 though so I may be wrong.
It should be installed full on your PS3 HDD or you need for every patch a new game disc.
But non-MMO disc-based games don't install the entire game and can patch just fine without new discs. Wouldn't it just read what's on the disc, assisted by the portion of installed data and patches that are on the PS3's hard drive?
