    What's going to change with materia come 2.0?

    Hi all,

    So I read the rep response that said come 2.0 base stats will play a more integral role than stats on gear. My question is, what will happen to materia? Will the values be tweaked come 2.0 or something else?

    Just wondering, since I am about to start trying to get some decent double/triple melds together and don't want it to be a waste of time so close to 2.0 launch.

    Thanks for reading.

    They indicated that base stats will play a more integral role, but were not clear exactly how. I forsee something as simple as:

    Instead of being adding +23 max to <stat> you can now add +100 max to <stat>.

    You will still have +20 materia that you can quintuple meld for an additional +100. (Or more realistically, +40/+60). In this way, base stats play a more integral role in your abilities, however materia still plays a vital role to further enhance.

    Note: This is my interpretation of the statement given, and may not be accurate ^.^;

    Meld it now so they cant change the stats of the materia.

    to be honest with you i don't know how there going to do it, but once a piece is melded the stats are transferred to the gear so it would be next to imposable to change the gear stats once melded so my guess is nothing will change with materia.

    Nope, changes are retroactive

    Ahh yes, this would be a good way of doing it! I suppose I will go for mostly single and a couple of double melds for now just incase. Unless we get a rep response of course =)

    Yep, the materia doesn't "go away" when it's melded to an item. Your melded weapon (or whatever) is essentially multiple items as far as the database is concerned.
