Yoshida answered a question about vanity slots in a recent interview:
http://www.rpgsite.net/articles/397-...oper-interviewRPG Site: Has there ever been any consideration to add fashion/vanity slots to the game? Basically separate slots for equipment that actually gives you stats, with the option of a second row of slots where you can put in other armor. The armor would then be your visible gear—something like that which has been present in other modern MMOs.
Yoshida: This has been talked about, but will not be available at the time of relaunch, as we feel that it will make it harder to distinguish between classes/jobs if their appearance does not match their party role. However, we have not abandoned the possibility of implementing such a system in the future.

Heh heh. Guess someone saw the thread. We should continue to keep this thread going, IMO. Wouldn't want the devs to forget about the OP. :P

Ya I was going to post that too, a bit of a shame but at least it's news and they are thinking about it

Seems kinda like some past choices they made are kinda biting Vanity slot chances in the arse. The only reason i can gather that what he mentioned would apply is due to the amount of "All Classes" gear, especially mage style gear, thats floating around.
If my guess is right, given that a fair amount of us seem to be on the same page about vanity slot items being within the class/job realm. (aka if you could use it as a stat piece it can be vanity, and if not, then you can't) How would you suggest that problem (if it is the problem) be addressed?
Some optons could include: Vanity "tags" like the equip tags.
Redone gear so that mage style robes are mage specific?
I wonder why this is such an issue when techincally we could use any of these items in our current slows, except we suffer stat wise. If i'm holding a spear, its kinda apparent what i am and what i'll be doing. And if someone isn't aware of what weapon = what class = what role then the armor choice isn't gonna help much either.
Thoughts?
But... it won't! Each class will only be able to wear the armor pieces they would have been able to wear in the first place! -.-Yoshida answered a question about vanity slots in a recent interview:

That was my first thought too. But theres a reason why As a DRG i don't wear a woolen robe. Because of the stats. (and because i'm a DRG, but whatever ^^) If stats no longer applied, i could wear a woolen robe and still have my stats.
Look like a mage, actually be a DRG. Thats the only way i can understand what i think he meant there.
Even though i personally don't see the issue. Since [Mage] [Do you have it?] is about all you'd need to do to find out (Assuming like i said, the giant Spear doesn't tip ya off)
But Vanity slots has a long history in games of flimsy excuses of why they can't won't. Then when they finally do, they wonder why the never did before. Old habits die hard.
Guess we get to look like everyone else for a little longer ^^

I asked Erren Van Duine to ask Yoshi-P about this thread for the interview. Thank you for asking.Just too bad about the answer. Really hope we get it in the future.
And the answer is a bit silly imo, the very idea was that classes and jobs can only use gear they can wear anyway for their fashion slots. @.@" Oh well, let's not give up hope.
Mr Fluffy Snurble Camate, please pass on this tiny little detail to the devs sometime. Aka: Fashion Slots only let you equip what your class can normally wear anyway. ^_^
