Have to consider most don't have access to 1kDef/400VIT worth of gear and on a realistic scale most good/elite players don't even have access to such. On the average scale the benefits of high DPS/Enmity/HP tend to be easier get and more beneficial to those who can't get reach said defense/VIT level to really reap the benefits of stacking defense.

There really isn't a "1 set fits all" that a person can make. Sure with enough defense and Vit you can see substantial returns but there is also the need for damage>enmity as well as hp for cushion. Take the H-1's for example, while Def and Vit may lower a vast majority of the damage you take, good luck consistently landing any sort of combo on them. On top of that there is the need for, at the very least, 4k hp because his hard hitting, stunning, WS is lightning based, not physical and you have to have a bad ass connection and twitchy finger to get sentinel or hallowed ground up in time because he hits fast.

Every stat has it's uses but most are situational; HP can be used in any situation, Def is physical only. +Enmity is also more potent for PLD due to the fact we spam buffing abilities and healing more than we combo, and by spamming those abilities we actually hurt our tp generation by delaying our AA even longer.

I am of an open mind here and have begun to swap out materia in my tank gear, but there are some things that are a must and a decent hp pool is 1 of them. I really do believe there isn't a single set we can use for every situation but there are things we can combine that are in common with our multiple sets, should we have more than 1.

Got to try the "Raven" fight last night. Was extemely fun...only got access once, so didn't beat it.

With my unfinished set I'm building

    311 STR
    256 MND

Still missing some HQ STR rings, Tripple MND Helmet, and didn't have any accuracy food, so I had to use an HQ Electrum Ring, and only had the Ifrit Sword.

On Darnus, I was pulling rougly 1190 Enmity for a Flat Blade Combo. (200 Fast Blade, 180 Flat Blade)
Spirits Within Combo was 1825 (200 Phalanx, 650 Spirits Within)
With all cooldowns, and with Sentinel, I averaged around 5400 Enmity per minute.
Darnus ports a lot, so there's a lot of time to wait around.
With my full build I could probably increase it another 30%.

So I'm starting to think, that it might end up being a little overkill on Enmity Generation, which would leave room for some more Vitality or Defense, or accuracy/Dex

But like others say, there is no 1 build for all fights. Any boss that would have high physical defense and low magic defense would be tough.

Hmm, well in light of info I have just recived, it apears stacking any stat is pointless as of right now, Heard that SE will limit the effect of stacked materia to two of the same, I am strongly against this.

if one was to decide to stack or mix stats, that would be up to the individual wich is why the materia system is probably this games current best aspect, that being said , IF they limit our abilities to customize our gear by limiting slots and how many materia would actually be effective , they would consiquently force us into another "cookie cutter gear set up" situation, everyone will stack the same stats on the same gear where as of now, because there is no limit to effective stats people will experament and find for themselves what stat builds work for them.

I am evidance that what the majority may want dosent always fit that odd ball player. Not to say either side is wrong in their choice , but having the choice is what makes me such a big fan of the materia system. From what i understand SE is concerned about the unitentional "bloaded" stats on gear , consiquently overpowering certain jobs. Fact is , such gear sets are NOT easly come by and often take several atempts just to attain a double meld, much less a triple. If one was soo inlcined to acheive such greatness and set themsleves apart from the masses , why should they not be allowed to? This is the brilliance of our current materia set up. No one is limited , everyone has the same opertunity and yet only few decide to temp fate and even fewer succeed. Its a system in wich risk is rewarded even if it somtimes fails, and the higher the risk the more potential a reward awaits the gambler. And all this to insure that no one person is forced or even inclined to have the same set up as any other.

I implore you SE, DO NOT REFORM YOUR MATERIA SYSTEM, IT IS NOT BROKEN, PLZ DO NOT BREAK IT .

Hmmm? Where did you hear that we'd be materia limited?

I definately don't want to see that either.
I agree with what you are saying that it is our best reward system on making uber gear, and the best way to customize our setups.
While a double meld (or more) setup is OP compared to someone with basic gear, it is pretty balanced between classes/jobs.

BLM with Double Melds ='s WHM with Double Melds (not in the sense of damage, but potential)
