FFXIV and its predecessor FFXI are fantasy MMO's with a realistic style to them. Yeah, I know, there are some very unrealistic things in the game like casting magic etc. However, for the simple things they always follow the normal rules of nature.

The reason why something like vanity pets passes in WoW is because WoW is ridiculous and nothing in that game even closely follows the rules of nature, it's like a children's cartoon. In FFXIV on the other hand, it just wouldn't make sense to have a bunch of exotic pets following you around, unleashed, and with no evidence of ever existing anywhere else in Eorza. In RL the only domestic animals you would ever commonly see in public are dogs really, maybe on rare occasion some crazy person will have a cat on a leash. The only domesticated animals in the FFXIV universe are Chocobos... and moogles I guess if they count, and on rare occasions a wyrm. I don't want to see people with Cactars, bombs, caits, and what ever else chasing them around town because it doesn't make sense, and it ruins the atmosphere of the game.

I know that there are some of you pokemon generation that really get hot and bothered over this kind of stuff though... So it would be acceptable to me if they allowed it with the restriction that it can NEVER leave your inn room... What you do with your own pets in your own house in none of my own business, as long as I don't have to see it or hear about it.
You know I don't think we'll really have inn rooms in 2.0... >.> We're getting player housing. Depending on how this is handled we may never see another inn room.

Your main complain though seems to be that you don't want to things that aren't in the FF world added as pets or things that are extreme aggressive by their nature. Do you really think they would add something that didn't fit into the lore? I don't see a reason as to why we can't have a marmot pet or a snurble as a pet other then the fact that it may turn into a behemoth and eat us. There are loads of other things that would work out as well of course.
