Suggestion: Vanity Pets

If you're going to do nothing more than throw the "if you don't like, don't use it XD" argument, then there's really no point in arguing. What's selfish is not accepting that some people don't want them in game. That's what selfish, making people who have an OPINION out to be the bad guys when we're just trying to voice our opinion, which we have just as much of a right to do as you. Just because you don't agree with us doesn't make us selfish, and a claim such is that is nothing short of ignorant. And if you're saying anything's okay "just for vanity's sake," then you surely wouldn't mind people having gigantic black and white wings, having an obnoxious fire effect on their character or any other sort of distracting and (oh my god) immersion breaking types of things.

Actually I wouldn't mind people running around with gigantic black and white wings, its just decoration wear =). Also I'm pretty sure SE would be subtle in what kinds of aesthetic decorations they would allow within the world. You wouldn't expect them to suddenly allow people to dress up like Gundams would you? They are smart people =D. And as I said in my previous post, they simply can just add a toggle that they are no longer visible on your screen. So those who want their vanity pets can have them, and those who don't want anything to do with them don't have to use them nor have to see them period.

There you go again, making me out to be the rampaging nonsensical bad guy. Both you and I know they will not add in a toggle for vanity items. If they do, I'd be very surprised, but they won't. There's no point in arguing with you if you're going to continue taking the high road, so I'm done here.

I don't like to side with the public enemy, as he doesn't even supply a reason as to why, but having little "pets" that follow you around really cheapens the feel of being a rough and tumble seasoned adventurer into a a baby animal collector.

While the Malboro would be neat...I was thinking more along the lines of a Snurble or Ewe...or a tiny Mog that will fly behind you like he's trying to catch up, but then land on your shoulder and pant heavy for a moment when you stop.

He is in my linkshell, and his simple request for more added casual fun in this game is a devious ploy! It is a plot with Camate to force me to witness Snubble 'pets' that I cannot kill! Worse is that I might become shackeled to one!

Think of the reprocussions, I will be forced to kill everything in sight in a vain attempt to get rid of it! Please, oppose this measure for the sake of Snurble Slayers everywhere!

Oh would you look here! It's someone who doesn't want it and doesn't give a crap reason as to why. Well he is a tad dramatic I would agree that the devs should focus their attention on whats important first. That doesn't mean this can't be added in though. It wouldn't take all that much work cause the follow system will be there cause of chocos and they can make them despawn as soon as the player enters combat. Toss in a limit on how long the pet stays out and people won't have their frame rate killed by people afking with pets out. Does it hurt to know that if you thought about it for more then 2 seconds it could work out fairly well?

Just a side note. Making vanity pets would not be a huge distraction, especially when you have a development crew of 200 +, like Yoshida has.

The "it wastes Valuable Developer time!" is moot given the circumstance. The more content this game has that players can find enjoyable, the better.

That said, there is a much more valid excuse to appose this - the destined extinction of all Snubbles that must not be stopped!

If Camate can turn into a Behemoth, what would happen to all those pets if left alone? The Adventurers will be caught unaware and we'll have to fend of a Behemoth invasion on top of an Imperial one!

My opinion on this is less of a yes/no to it, but the line of development where i think its worth bothering with.

My main issues with past iterations of "vanity pets" are mostly.

-They all are cut/tiny. I wouldn't mind having a Vanity pet Dog. But they are always purse puppy side. Even if it can't attack etc could you atleast give me a German shepard type vanity pet? to scale? Maybe my dog is a coward, maybe he just growls and barks when i'm in combat. But atleast its not a mini poodle.

- Lack of an emotes involving Vanity pets. This one is usually a pity because it leaves the vanity pet as a small shadow that may randomly bark or animiate but your unable to do anything with except summon/desummon. If they make a vanity pet dog. Let me pet it, throw a ball for it give it a snack whatever. But if all they do is exsist and bark here and there its very blah.

- Realistic isn't quite the word to use, but i prefer Vanity pets to be somewhat withing the realm of game lore as much as possible. I personally don't want to see a baby Ifrit or Ifrit jr Vanity pet. Or the baby version of the biggest baddest dragon out there etc. Marmots, dodos, Dogs, Cats, Bombs, Leaftraps etc sound good enough to me. If their pets i prefer them to resemble pet type things. Leave the exotic stuff to a pet class/job.

Those are my thoughts and opinions, hope you found them constructive.
