That's your opinion. Others have their own.
He's a young person trying too much to sound too serious, personally I find the result hilarious![]()
Rule number 1 of fantasy cinematic voice acting - use a British accent.
It sounds like a typical ESL accent.. but with an additional eorzean accent at the same time.. do-bul fa-yulGot to agree with comments saying the English voice-over for the trailer weren't exactly the best choice. I feel bad saying it, as there is a real person out there who did it and probably did their best, but the guy sounded like he were rushed into doing the voice acting, just as he had a serious case of slow bowel movement at the can. The French and German voices are miles better. The new website looks great though, and while it's no gameplay footage (which are surely coming), the trailer is well done, in true SE fashion.
I wonder why there's only concept art of ruined buildings on the Ul'dah page, while Gridania and Limsa Lominsa has screenshots of the locations like we know them. http://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/about/world/cities/ul-dah
It's a nifty concept, but in practice it's ended up being reaaallllly confusing sometimes knowing whether you're viewing an Echo or the present time (doubly so for new players who haven't had the concept of the echo fully explained yet). I remember the first time I played the main scenario, I had no idea how the chain of events unfolded as about half of them were in the past and half were in the present, with very little indication as to which was which.
Perhaps if they added some kind of obvious visual indicator (past events viewed in greyscale? I don't know) that you're looking at an Echoed event, it wouldn't be so bad.

I can't wait for 2.0! Thank you Square Enix for not giving up on Final Fantasy XIV, I hope the game will last for many years!

I understand that not everyone will share our opinion. However for those who think another voice actor would have been a better choice, I would like to think, we are not just complaining simply for the fact of our own personal distaste, but because SE could have done better.
The fact of the matter is that there are certain types of "voices" that sell in the North American market:
1. Movie Trailer Voice

2. British Voice

3. Sexy smooth female voice. (Sometimes, though male voices are more universal.)

I am sure there are others but, those come to mind.
If a business going to reintroduce a product that is in desperate need of a consumer base, financial gains and intrigue then you are going to need to utilize a voice over that is more marketable.
This game is already faltering do to its release reputation, SE needs to make sure every move they execute is 100% satisfactory (or at least appeals to market standards) or people will stop looking, stop being interested.
As petty as it sounds a voice over that is disliked by the majority of current clientele may most likely have a negative effect on any potential customers.

There is actually a very clear transition, there is a unique wooshing sound and a screen distortion. It's a nifty concept, but in practice it's ended up being reaaallllly confusing sometimes knowing whether you're viewing an Echo or the present time (doubly so for new players who haven't had the concept of the echo fully explained yet). However, the Main Quest actually does it's best to make it VERY unclear of what the hell is going on before you are explained about the Echo in the... L30-something quest? Yeah, that one. The one where all the main quests come together.
It's actually an interesting narrative tool.

Ok, just so we're perfectly clear and nobody has no false expectations...
That is not snow the Behemoth is surrounded by.
